**BFAR Delivers 62-Footer Steel Hulled Purse Seine Fishing Vessel to Sindangan Fisherfolk Federation**

*Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte - August 11, 2023*

In a momentous event that marked a significant stride toward bolstering the local fishing industry, the
Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources - Region IX (BFAR-IX) orchestrated the handover of the DA-
BFAR 2104 Purse Seine Fishing Vessel to the Sindangan Fisherfolk Federation (SFF) on August 8, 2023.
The turnover ceremony unfolded at Sindangan Port, situated in barangay Calatunan, Zamboanga del
Norte, and attracted a notable gathering including SFF officials, BFAR personnel, and the dynamic Mayor
of Sindangan, the Honorable Rosendo "Dodoy" Labadlabad.

The commencement of the program commenced with the customary blessing of the fishing vessel, a
time-honored ritual invoking divine protection for the ship and its crew. Reverend Father Marlon
Empeynado conducted this solemn tradition, steeped in maritime heritage. Following the blessing, a
succinct program hosted by Mrs. Sharlyn R. Tabiliran ensued.

The highlight of the event was Mayor Labadlabad's heartfelt expression of gratitude. The Mayor lauded
the bureau's magnanimity in entrusting such a substantial project to his constituents. He pledged to
maximize the vessel's potential in alignment with BFAR's intent: to uplift the circumstances of marginal
municipal fisherfolk, propelling them toward increased productivity and self-empowerment. Mayor
Labadlabad urged the community to reciprocate this blessing through dedicated efforts and responsible
stewardship, underscoring the substantial responsibility that accompanies such a valuable asset.

Director Al-Zath K. Kunting, RFP, responded with profound appreciation, particularly acknowledging
Mayor Labadlabad's fervor for the project. His message revolved around empowerment, outlining the
transformation possible when simple municipal fisherfolk transition from laboring for kilos of catch to
reaping metric tons using a commercial purse seine fishing vessel. Director Kunting assured sustained
support beyond the turnover, including marketing assistance through BFAR's logistics, a move set to
bypass intermediaries and bolster the fisherfolk federation's earnings. The attendees resonated with his
words, igniting a renewed dedication to the project's success.

The formal transfer of the fishing vessel culminated with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing,
binding the involved parties to their respective roles. Mayor Labadlabad, Director Kunting, and Mr.
Remio D. Ocas, President of SFF, represented their entities in this pivotal commitment. The signing was
witnessed by PFO Andaya and Barangay Chairman Zosima dela Cerna, encapsulating the moment for
posterity.
Prior to Director Kunting, Mayor Labadlabad, and their teams embarking on the vessel for an inspection,
PFO Andaya concluded the program with heartfelt appreciation for all those who dedicated their time,
skills, and efforts to actualize the project. The PFO reiterated BFAR's unwavering support, fostering
collaboration with local government units and partners to
