The Gingerbread Man
There was once a little boy whose very favourite food
wasgingerbread. One day, his mun popped a
gingerbread man into theoven and said to her son,
Tm just taking your dad some sandwiches and a drink.
He'llbe hungry and thirsty after working in the fields
all morning. Will youkeep an eye on your gingerbread
man and make sure that he doesn't burn?"
No sooner had his mum gone out, than the oven door
burst openand out jumped the gingerbread man.
He looked at the little boy and ran away laughing:
"Ruin, run, as fast as you can,

The little boy ran after him
when he ran past the field shouting and yelling and
his mum and dad both where his dad was working,
joined the
chase.
Next the gingerbread man
passed a black and white cow.
"Mmmm," mooed the cow. Please
and Iwant to eat you!" stop. You look tasty
But the gingerbread man ran
even faster, shouting:
Tve run away from the little boy, I've run
away from his
mumand dad. IIlrun away from you
too!
Run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me,
I'm the
gingerbread man."
The coW ran as fast as she could, but that wasn't VERY
fast, because she needed milking.
Nex e gingerbread man passed a big dappled horse.
neighed the horse. Please stop. You look tasty
and eat you.
BL gerbread man ran even faster, shouting:
"Tve riu11 away fromthe little boy, I've run away fromhis
mum and dad, I've run away from the black and white cow
and I'll run away from you too!
Run, run, as fast aS you can, you can't catch me, I'm the
gingerbread man."

The gingerbread man jumped onto the fox's tail
began to swim across the river.
"You're a little heavy on my tail," sighed the fox. "Could you
climb onto my back?" So the gingerbread man wriggled
along onto the fox's back.
