TIME MANAGEMENT

TECHNIQUES
ADOPT A “SLOW AND
STEADY” MENTALITY
Say Goodbye to Cramming

Be the Tortoise in the “Tortoise and the Hare”

Made a study plan,

slowly followed the
study plan, and
tackled the test!
Yay! :)

Procrastinated, then
tried to cram. The
test tackled him. :(
MAKE A “LONG-TERM
STUDY” PLAN

Use a day planner or easily make a one-month calendar page (like

the one below) where you can write in your plan.

Step 1: Write down the date of your test in

the planner. How many days left until the
test?

Step 2: On a blank page, write down the

specific activities you need to do in order to
effectively study all the content that is needed. Then
prioritize the tasks from most to least important.

STUDY” PLAN
Step 3: Estimate the amount of time it will take to get through these
various tasks (in hours). Be realistic. Give more time rather than
less.

Step 4: Based on the number of hours needed to study, work

backwards from your test date and schedule study times directly
into your schedule. Stick to your schedule.

Step 5: Based on the list created in Step 2 and the estimated time it
will take from Step 3, write down the specific task you will be
working on during each study block.
USE POMODORO TECHNIQUES
DURING STUDY SESSIONS

Step 1: Find someplace to work that is free of

distractions.

Step 2: Decide on the specific task to work on

and use your study plan to guide you.

Step 3: Set a physical time for 25 minutes.

USE POMODORO TECHNIQUES
DURING STUDY SESSIONS

Step 4: When the timer goes off, put a checkmark on a

paper and take a 5-minute break.

Step 5: Now go back to Step 2 and set a timer for 25

minutes. Repeat this process until you have about 4
checkmarks on your paper.

Step 6: Once you have completed a Pomodoro 4 times,

it’s time for a longer break of 15-30 minutes.

Step 7: Repeat the whole process for the length of time

you scheduled yourself for studying.
ADOPT A “WORK, THEN
PLAY” MENTALITY
First work, then give yourself time to play (i.e., a
reward).

Aim to have daily rewards to motivate you to

follow your study plan.

Be creative about your rewards (big and small,

and indulge your senses- sight, hearing, taste,
smell, touch).
