Software sketching tool

INTRODUCTION
Sketching software allows users to create a drawing with digital graphics. Instead of traditional
art supplies such as paper and pen, artists create drawings on a computer or tablet using digital
tools such as brush sets, color palettes, and more. These drawings can range from 2D drafts that
visually communicate how something functions or is constructed to digital artwork. These
products can be used by illustrators or designers in many different industries, such as automotive
design and traditional construction. These tools allow you to take sketches one step further with
functions such as pushing and pulling surfaces to turn them into 3D designs.

Advantages of software sketching tool

1. It’s easy to draw your design because it’s designed to behave like an extension of your
hand.

2. Adjust to the lifelike drawings you’ll create fast. That’s because this is an intuitive,
powerful and simple-to-learn 3D drawing tool.

3. Software sketching allows you to render surfaces in an array of "styles". Pick from a
variety of architecture that best suits your design and pleases your client.
4. This makes it easy to integrate with software that furnishes additional capabilities. It also
supports third-party "plug-in" programs.

5. With this you can place your model within "Google Earth" - right on the actual site!

Uses of software sketching tool:

There are multiple uses for sketching in the design process:

1. Rapid Concept Development:

Sketching is an excellent way to quickly explore concepts. You can sketch for one or two hours
and work out multiple possible solutions to the design problem at hand. This is an essential step
in the design process. It will save you time to work through concepts on paper before going to
the computer.

Figure 1.1

2. Basic Composition or Layout:

Sketches are a quick way to create the basic composition of your illustration. They are also used
in Web site design and graphic design to quickly evaluate layout choices. You can make a series
of thumbnail sketches, or they can be larger. As long as your sketches are good enough that they
capture the necessary elements, drawing skill is unnecessary.
Figure 1.2

3. Client Communication and Approval:

Showing sketched thumbnails or compositions to clients, will potentially save you an enormous
amount of time. The more detailed the project will be the earlier you want client approval. If
you're going to spend hours on an illustration, you want to make sure the client is in agreement
with your choice of design before moving forward. Getting thumbnail approvals from clients is a
common part of the illustration process. It is also common on large logo design projects and
other projects as well.

Figure 1.3

4. Visual Exploration:
Sketching can be used as a journaling activity to record and explore your interests. It can also be
used to explore multiple options you could take in a particular design.

Sherrie Thai has a portfolio over at Coroflot. She has a section there dedicated
to Sketches. These sketches show her visual explorations in multiple fields of design.
Figure 1.4

5. Refining Visual Solutions

The process of creating a design or illustration at later stages involves refinement. The overall
concept and direction of the piece may be working great, but one element isn't. Often, this can be
tightened up and corrected in further rounds of sketching. Of course, at some point a digital artist
moves to the computer. The process of sketching then moves into digital drafts.

How to Get Area Calculations in Sketchup:

If you are working with a model that has multiple rooms like a house, restaurant, or large suite,
you probably want to record the area of each individual space. There are a few different ways to
get area calculations in Sketchup, and in this tutorial, we’ll show you each way and the tricks
to doing it right! With these tips, you’ll be able to quickly and accurately record the square

The Different Ways to Get Area Calculations in Sketchup

1. Entity Info

Select any face in your model and you can view the entity info in the default tray, located on the
right side of your screen. Under the “layer” dropdown you can see the area of the space in square
feet. However, if you don’t have any doors dividing the space, the measurement may be
including multiple spaces.

Close Off Door Openings. Open the line tool by pressing “L.” Click and drag to close off any
door openings that lead to a separate space. Delete the face that is created after drawing the line.

Figure 2.0

2. Use the Text Tool

Another way to get area calculations in Sketchup is by using the text tool. Simply select the
“text” tool in the top menu bar and click on the face you want to measure. It will automatically
show you the area of that space.

An important note to remember is that once you click off of the “text” tool, you will not be able
to go back and add more lines to the text. For example, if you want to have a title above the
square footage, you will have to type it in before you finish using the “text” tool.
Keep in mind the text is also not dynamically linked to the room. So if you alter the square
footage of the room, the text will not change to reflect it.

If you want to customize the text, click on the leader. Then use the settings in the “default tray”
under “entity info” to change the font or arrow.

Window > Model Info > Text. If you want to save the settings for the next leader you draw,
navigate to “window” > “model info” and click on “text.” Use the “leader text” section to change
your text options. While you have the “model info” window open, go ahead and change the units
so the area rounds to the nearest whole number.

Change Units. In the “length units” section, click on the “format” dropdown. Select “decimal”
and change “inches” to “feet.” Then, in the “precision” dropdown, select “0.”
Move. If you want to move a leader, hit “M” to open the move command. Click on the end of a
leader and move it to the desired location and use the arrow keys to lock to certain axes.

SOLIDWORKS:
The SOLIDWORKS Software The SOLIDWORKS® CAD software is a mechanical design
automation application that lets designers quickly sketch out ideas, experiment with features and
dimensions, and produce models and detailed drawings. This document discusses concepts and
terminology used throughout the SOLIDWORKS application. It familiarizes you with the
commonly used functions of SOLIDWORKS.

What Is Solidworks Uses?

Solidworks course is used to develop a robust and fully functioned mechatronics system
from beginning to end. At the initial stage, the software is used for planning, visual
ideation, modeling, prototype, and project management. The software will then help you to
design and build mechanical, electrical, or software elements. Finally, you can manage
things like device management, analytics, data automation, and cloud services with the
help of Solidworks.
While Solidworks software is feature-rich and lets you design any imaginable shape, it
focuses on engineering design by way of geometric parametric modeling.

The SOLIDWORKS software is efficiently used by mechanical, electrical, or ECE

engineers to invent a new connected design. The program suite aims to keep engineers in
sync, communicate and respond to design needs or any changes.

The application is quite easy to use and affordable. Over the years, several versions have
been developed to help meet the needs of engineers that cater to various business
requirements.
System Requirements For SolidWorks
Operating System –

SolidWorks is available on Windows and based on the version of Windows, certain

conditions will be applicable:

 You can only run SolidWorks on Windows 10

 There is no support for Windows 8.1.
 Both SW2018 and SW2019 support Windows 7, however, only SW2018 supports
Windows 8.1

SolidWorks Features & Functions :

Solidworks functions as a parametric CAD program; meaning every feature that’s

designed in the program is built on the parameters of the feature it’s physically attached
to.
For instance, if the parameters of a primary feature were to change (such as width)
attached secondary features will lower down in the timeline also get affected (such as
hole.

The new Solidworks 2022 has several unique selling points that would diversify it from
various other professional CAD programs. Such tools have helped gain the reputation
as one of the most ‘Promising Software’ amongst engineers and designers.

Some Important Solidworks Features

Rendering :

Solidworks visualize will help you make presentation-ready rendering a cakewalk in the
park. You can import Solidworks CAD files directly into the software and those rendered
with accurate lighting, texture and reflection

Simulation :

Through simulation, parts can be subjected to stress tests for structural flaws with accurate
measurement and powerful analysis tools. With the premium package, one can measure
flow rates and compressions to reduce the need to build & test physical prototypes.
Evaluation:

Once a part or assembly is done, the drawing tools can be used. It instantly creates an
accurate 2D representation of a part and enables the user to drag & drop different view
angles to come up with complete orthographic representation. Dimensions can be added t o
draw by simply click on the surface or vertex and click to select the dimension being
displayed.

Manufacture:

Once a part gets evaluated, it’s ready for manufacture. Solidworks CAM generates G-code
that could be sent straight to CNC machines, ready for production.
