LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8
I- Objective
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages Page 223
2. Learner’s Materials pages Pages 321 - 323
3. Textbook pages
B. Engage The teacher presents a bowl with materials inside (yarn). Let
the students make a guess, what is inside the bowl. Then
the teacher asks a volunteer to remove the cover of the
bowl. Ask the students if they have guessed it correctly.
Then the teacher asks the question:
How will you describe the yarn?
The teacher recognizes student’s responses or
observations. The observations may include the yarns color,
texture, and length. Then the teacher challenges the
students to divide the yarn into two equal parts. The process
questions will be as follows:
1. Did you find it easy to divide the yarn into two equal
parts?
2. How will you know that you have divided the yarn
equally?
3. What material inside the cell resembles the yarn? How
about the bowl?
C. Explore
The students are grouped into four. Let each group describe
the
changes that takes place in every stage of mitosis.
Activity 1
Each group is given illustrations and meta cards where they
can write their observations on the changes that occur in
each stage of mitosis. Each group will describe the different
stages of mitosis to them:
Group 1 – Will describe the stages using meta cards
Group 2 – Will do the cookie mitosis model
Guide questions:
1. What are the different stages of mitosis?
2. Describe each stage of mitosis.
Dicription Options
Number of divisions 1 2
Type of cell involved Somatic Gametes or sex
cells
Number of daughter 2 4
cells produced
Chromosome number haploid diploid
of each daughter cell
Similarity of the parent Different Similar
and daughter cells
F. Extend Explain the importance of cell division in medicine or in
agriculture through multimedia presentation.
*Research on the importance of cell division in
medicine or in agriculture.
Beauty
G. Evaluate Let the students synthesize their learning by answering the
following questions:
1. What are the four stages of mitosis?
2. What happen to the chromosomes in each stage of mitosis?
3. Do all cells undergo the mitotic cell division?
* With the use of diagrams of the stages of mitosis,
identify each stage and describe what happen in each
stage. (refer to the attached sheet)
