TYPES

-Physical noise
is interference that is external to both speaker and listener
-Physiological noise
Physiological noise is created by barriers within the sender or receiver.
-Semantic noise
is interference created when the speaker and listener have different meaning
systems.
-Psychological noise
is mental interference in the speaker or listener.

4b. A diphthong is where there are two vowel sounds in a syllable.

• /aɪ/ as in sky, buy, cry, tie.
• /ɔɪ/ as in boy, toy, coy or the first syllable of soya.
• /ɪə/ as in beer, pier, hear.

4c. Triphthongs A triphthong is a combination of three vowels pronounced rapidly as


one. EG; •
• ɑɪ + ə: admire, fire, hire;
• ɔi + ə: lawyer, royal, soya;

4d. Word stress is the emphasis we place in a specific syllable of a word when
pronouncing it. EG; be-LOW, a-BOUT, a-BOVE, be-TWEEN, a-SIDE, pre-SENT, re-PLY, ex-
PORT
