CE 433 REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN Fall 2007 Problem Set No. 7 Serviceability Requirements Due October 22 Crevised Solution ey Wolo tI ~ - aaehgemnneet ‘A rectangular beam of width b = 18 in., effective depth d= 17 in., and total depth = 20 in. spans 25 ft between simple supports. It supports an unfactored dead load of 1.2 kips/ft (includes beam self- weight) plus an unfactored live load of 0.7 kips/ft. Flexural reinforcement consists of five No. 9 bars ina single row, and shear reinforcement is provided using No. 3 stirrups. Materials: f¢ = 4000 psi and fy = 60,000 psi. (1) Determine if the arrangement of the reinforcing bars satisfies the ACI 318-02, Section 10.6.4 requirements on distribution of flexural reinforcement. (2) For the given beam: (a) Calculate the increment of deflection resulting from the application of the short-term live load. (b) Find the creep portion of the sustained load deflection plus the immediate deflection due to live load. (c) Compare the deflection calculated in part (b) with the limitations imposed by the ACI Code as summarized in Table 6.3 of the text. Assume that the beam is susceptible to cracking damage if the deflections are excessive. ce 433 WwW No. T FEN 2007 Revised Solution Sor Prob & | Dee ee b= 18" | \ Fes 4000 psi | 2 | he2o" Fy= 60,000 pi | a Ce = (20-11) - ies 2. in. 5S No.4 bars per Act § 10.6.4 — take Pos 24, Fy = 40,000 pie mon spacing S = 15 (Hgueee ~ 2.5 (2.48) }OCO = 8.9% n 12 (Newee ) = (2:0 40,000 Po Sram = BU. actwol spacing wi S No.a's+ . ta 201.5") = 2 (oats) - 2('BF") = 13,4" cover shreug outer Nos avker bat 4o cules lone So achol S = 13! 2 3.Bin. < Smer Hspaces oo Ok
