Introduction

The aim of this report is to evaluate the standards of safety at school, by examining the
presence of fire escapes, fire doors and fire-fighting equipment. It will also consider the fact
that class sizes have increased lately and make recommendations for improvements.

Elements of fire safety available

At school, we have identified several areas with proper fire-fighting equipment, while also
ensuring we have enough fire escapes on each side of the building that can be accessed from
any floor. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about fire doors, as there are only a couple
of them at the school canteen’s entrance, so we have room for improvement.

Class sizes

Despite having an increase in the size of classes during the last three years, little has been done
to acquire more equipment which better suits these new sizes. Moreover, students should be
able to see the exit sign from every corner of the classroom and know how to evacuate during
emergencies.

Recommendations

There are many ways in which this situation could be improved. One suggestion would be to
have fire doors on every floor of the school building so that if a fire breaks out, it will not
spread further. It would also be a good idea to check if the existing fire-fighting equipment is
enough for each class and install more if necessary. Finally, it would be useful to have fire drills
regularly so both students and teachers know emergency procedures and how to react in the
case of fire.
