The Purpose of Curiosity

People are born curious. Children would often point to things they didn’t understand,
and ask about them. They would ask about how things came to be, why they came to be, or
when they came to be. Because they were curious, they were open-minded and and craved
knowledge. There are some children that can nourish their curiosity and transform it into
creativity after growing up, but there are also those whose curiosity fades as time goes on.
Curiosity is a gift that everyone, not only children, share.
I was no exception to this gift. As a kid, I would always find things to be interested in.
The fact that I knew nothing about these things attracted me, and I always found myself
thinking of all the wonderful things I could do if I knew what they were. I would be engrossed in
a newfound habit for a day, then be engrossed in another activity after that.
Although I may have already forgotten some of the things I tried and learned, the
curiosity that caused me to try them still remains in me. Because of that curiosity, I was able to
find habits that rejuvenate my brain, discover skills that resound with my soul, and commit to
things that I enjoy. For that, I am eternally grateful to the curiosity that resides within me–
because without it, I wouldn’t know what entertains me and what doesn’t.
Curiosity is a gift all of us share, and I believe that there is a reason why. We are born
curious not for the sake of being curious, but for the sake of learning more. Through this
curiosity, we learn more about us, the world around us, and those that are in it. Through this
curiosity, we are able to find out that taking risks can sometimes be beneficial for us. Through
this curiosity, we learn to be creative with what we learned; to make use of the knowledge we
worked hard to get; to formulate new ideas we wouldn’t know if we weren’t curious enough.
In saying so, we must make sure that we nurture our curiosity by asking more questions,
trying out new things, and experiencing new experiences. After all, it is through this curiosity
that we are able to reach our fullest potential.
