CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

Home environment is an important factor in student success, as it can affect a student's

attitude towards learning and their ability to focus on their studies. It is important for

parents to create an environment that is conducive to learning and encourages their

children to strive for success. This can be done through providing a safe and

comfortable space for studying, setting clear expectations for academic performance,

and providing support and guidance throughout the educational process.

Creating a safe and comfortable space for studying is essential for students to be able

to focus and concentrate on their work. This can include having a designated area for

studying, providing adequate lighting, and having a comfortable chair and desk.

Additionally, having access to the necessary materials and resources can help students

to be more productive and successful.

Setting clear expectations for academic performance is also important for motivating

students to do their best. Parents should discuss their expectations for their children's

academic performance and provide guidance on how to achieve these goals. This can

include setting deadlines for completing assignments, providing feedback on their

progress, and rewarding them for their efforts.

Finally, providing support and guidance throughout the educational process can help to

motivate students to stay on track and achieve their goals. Parents should be available

5
to answer questions, provide encouragement, and provide resources to help their

children succeed. Additionally, they should be willing to listen to their children's

concerns and provide help when needed. Overall, the home environment can have a

significant impact on a student's motivation and academic performance. By creating a

safe and comfortable space for studying, setting clear expectations for academic

performance, and providing support and guidance throughout the educational process,

parents can help their children to be successful in their academic performance .

1.1. Significant of the study

Studying the impact of home environment to student's motivation in academic

performance can provide valuable insight into the factors that influence student

motivation and academic performance. It can help educators, parents, and policy

makers to better understand the role of the home environment in student motivation

and academic performance. The findings of the study can be used to inform

educational policies and practices that can help to create a more supportive home

environment for students, which can lead to improved academic performance.

Additionally, the study can provide guidance to parents and educators on how to

create a more conducive home environment for students to help them stay motivated

and achieve academic success.

1.2. Objectives of the study

1. To investigate the effect of home environment on student motivation and

academic performance.

1. To explore the factors that influence student motivation in academic performance

due to home environment.

2. To understand the role of home environment in student motivation and academic

performance.

Statement of the Problem

1.3. Statement of the problem

This research seeks to explore impact of home environment on student motivation in

academic performance. Specifically, this study will examine the following;

How the home environment, including parental support, family structure, and socio-

economic status, affects student motivation and academic performance. The research

will also consider how the home environment may influence student motivation and

academic performance in different cultural contexts.

2. How to create supportive home environment that can foster student motivation and

academic success.

3.

3.1. Scope and delimitation

7
This research aims to investigate the impact of home environment on student motivation

and academic performance. The research will focus on the following aspects:

1. The types of home environment that can influence student motivation and

academic performance.

2. The impact of home environment on student motivation and academic

performance.

3. The strategies that can be used to improve home environment and student

motivation and academic performance.

This research will be limited to the following:

1. The research will focus on the impact of home environment on student motivation

and academic performance in the Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and

Technology.

2. The research will be limited to students in BISCAST College of Trades and

Technology-Drafting technology( 2nd year). A convenient sample was selected

totaling of 25 students.

3. This research will not focus on the impact of the home environment on student

motivation and academic performance in higher level and other departments.

4. The research will not consider the impact of home environment on student

motivation and academic performance in the context of online or virtual learning.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The home environment is a critical factor in inspiring students and helping them to

succeed academically. This review of related literature dives into the various home

elements that can make a huge difference in a student's motivation towards their

studies.

Parental Involvement: Numerous studies have demonstrated the strong connection

between parental involvement and students' academic motivation (Gonzalez-DeHass,

Willems & Holbein, 2018). When parents engage in their children's education – such as

going to parent-teacher conferences, discussing school-related activities, and aiding

with assignments – students are more likely to feel encouraged and driven to do well

academically (Jeynes, 2020).

Socioeconomic Status: The socioeconomic standing of a family can significantly impact

a student's educational experience (Sirin, 2005). Families with a higher income can offer

more learning enrichment activities and access to essential resources like books or

digital devices, which can lend a powerful boost to motivation (Bradley & Corwyn,

2021).

Home Literacy Environment: Research has shown that the presence of and exposure to

reading materials in the home can have a positive effect on the development of

9
students' literacy capabilities and their enthusiasm for reading (Son & Morrison, 2020).

A rich home literacy environment can help to spark a student's interest in learning

.
CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

The researchers used a qualitative -methods approach to collect and analyze data. The
study involved a sample of studens from different socioeconomic backgrounds and
academic levels. The researchers used questionnaires to collect data on students'
home environment, motivation, and academic performance. The data collected were
analyzed using statistical techniques.

CHAPTER IV
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the results and discussion of the statement of the

problems of this study.

a. Discuss the findings and results of the research objectives.

b. Followed by the figures/tables.

RESULT SECTION

The result section describes and organizes your data and observation, including
statistical analysis are presented in the Result Section

10
The text makes the results meaningful by pointing out the most important
results, simplifying the results (e.g., "nearly half" instead of "48.9%"), and
highlighting significant trends or relationships.

DISCUSSION SECTION
- findings of the study indicate that there is a significant correlation between home
environment and students' motivation and academic performance. Students who
come from supportive and conducive home environments tend to be more
motivated and perform better academically than those who come from less
supportive and less conducive home environments. The study also found that
parental involvement, parental expectations, and home resources were
significant predictors of students' motivation and academic performance.
- The study underscores the importance of a supportive and conducive home
environment in fostering students' motivation and academic success. Parents
and caregivers have a critical role to play in creating a home environment that
supports their children's academic aspirations. The findings of this study can
inform policies and programs aimed at improving students' motivation and
academic performance by addressing the factors that contribute to a supportive
and conducive home environment.

11
CHAPTER V
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The home environment plays a crucial role in shaping student motivation and
academic performance. Research has consistently demonstrated that a positive
and supportive home environment can have a significant impact on student
success.

One important factor in the home environment is the quality of family

relationships. Studies have shown that positive and supportive family
relationships can lead to increased student motivation and better academic
performance. This includes factors such as emotional support, communication,
and high expectations for academic achievement.

Access to educational resources is also a critical factor in student success.

Students who have access to books, technology, and other educational materials
are more likely to succeed academically. In addition, parents who are actively
involved in their children's education and provide support and encouragement
can help foster a love for learning and a strong work ethic.

The stability of the home environment is also an important factor in student

motivation and academic performance. A stable and secure home environment

12
can provide a sense of safety and support, which can positively impact student
success. This includes providing a consistent routine, a safe and comfortable
living space, and a predictable family structure.

Finally, community resources can also play a role in supporting student

success. Access to after-school programs, tutoring, and mentorship can provide
additional support to students and help them achieve academic success.

Overall, the research indicates that the home environment has a significant impact on
student motivation and academic performance. Creating a positive and supportive home
environment that fosters strong family relationships, provides access to educational
resources, promotes stability and security, and encourages community involvement can
help students achieve their full potential.
