EZSwitchSetup 8.2.1 Release Notes EZSwitchSetup 8.2.1 Release Notes v1.0

Chapter 1: EZSwitchSetup 8.2.1

1.1 Overview
Brocade EZSwitchSetup 8.2.1 software, downloaded from www.mybrocade.com, enables SAN administrators to configure
and manage single-switch fabrics from a standard workstation using a simple graphical user interface (GUI) wizard.
EZSwitchSetup 8.2.1 guides the user through setting up basic switch parameters, configuring zoning, and managing the
switch.

EZSwitchSetup detects whether a non-English operating system is resident on the setup computer, and if so, it
automatically populates EZSwitchSetup on the switch with the corresponding language (French, German, Italian,
International Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or Korean).

Brocade EZSwitchSetup 8.2.1 software adds support for the Brocade 7810 Switch. This is the only change since
EZSwitchSetup 8.2.0.

1.4 Important Notes

For all target switches except the Brocade VA-40FC: Selecting the default continuation option after the switch IP address
has been configured will automatically launch the EZSwitchSetup Switch Configuration Wizard, which guides the user to
set up basic switch parameters and configure zoning. If the EZSwitchSetup Switch Configuration Wizard does not launch
automatically as requested, manually launch the configuration wizard by opening a browser window and entering the
switch IP address in the URL window; for example, http://<switch-IP-address>.
For the Brocade VA-40FC: Since the Brocade VA-40FC is in Access Gateway mode by default, after the switch IP
address has been configured, the application that will launch automatically to manage it is Web Tools. To view and
configure AG-specific features such as N-Port Groups and F-N Port Mappings, launch the Port Admin module and click
the buttons provided for these features. If Web Tools fails to launch automatically, enter the switch IP address in a
browser URL window to launch Web Tools manually.
On computers that have set the native locale to English in the Regional and Language Options dialog, the Keep
temporary files on my computer option must be selected in the Java Control Panel before running EZSS. This is the
default setting, and so unless the checkbox for this option has been unchecked explicitly, no change will be needed.
Refer to the following two figures for details. It is okay to delete all of the cached temporary Internet files using the Delete
Files button, if desired.

1.5 Installation Notes

1.5.1 Linux Platform

1. To install the software, you must be logged in as root.
2. To reach the Linux installation executable, you must download the installers from www.mybrocade.com and navigate
to the following path location: /CDROM_Installers/Linux/Disk1/InstData/VM/install.bin.
3. The installation routine will prompt you to choose both an install directory (the default is /opt/EZSwitchSetup) and
a link directory (the default is /usr/bin), and it will add an LD_LIBRARY_PATH entry to your /etc/.login file for
the install directory that you have selected.
4. After the install routine has completed, you must log out and log in again so that the new LD_LIBRARY_PATH entry
will become effective.
5. To launch EZSwitchSetup as root, simply invoke the EZSwitchSetup executable in the link directory (for example,
/usr/bin/EZSwitchSetup).
6. The install directory will also contain an Uninstall EZSwitchSetup directory, which contains a link to the uninstall
executable: /usr/bin/Uninstall_EZSwitchSetup.
7. If you are experiencing issues with the uninstaller not removing files, this may be related to a corrupt global registry. If
logged in as root, the global registry is in the \var directory. If logged in as user, the global registry is in the user's
home directory. While this error is extremely rare, it sometimes occurs when you are running and canceling both
installers and uninstallers multiple times. Try to rename the global registry file .com.zerog.registry.xml and
then install and uninstall. If this still does not work, you can issue rm -rf $EZSwitchSetup.

1.5.2 Windows Platform

If you experience issues with the uninstaller not removing files in Windows, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >
Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall > EZSwitchsetup, search for “EZSwitchsetup”, delete
the files, and proceed with the installation.

1.5.3 Common Notes for Linux and Windows Platforms

The user must download the complete EZswitchsetup folder (for example, Windows or Linux) from
www.mybrocade.com to install EZSS. Otherwise, the EZSS installation will fail when the user downloads only the
install.exe file or the install.bin file as the required supported files are available in the folders outside the
installer file.

1.6 General Limitations

HTTP Timeout:
Occasionally, you might see the following message when you try to get data from a switch or you send a request to
the switch:
Failed to get switch response. Please verify the status of your last operation and try
again if necessary.
This indicates that an HTTP request did not get a response. The request was sent to the switch, but the connection
was down, probably because of a temporary loss of the Web server on the switch. Due to the nature of an HTTP
connection, the switch reports this error after a 90-second default timeout.
In this case, verify the status of your last request using Telnet to check the related status, or click the Refresh button
from the EZManager application that you were working on to retrieve the related data. If your request did not get
through to the switch, resubmit it. Issuing a refresh from EZManager retrieves a copy of the switch data at that
moment; the data that you entered can be lost if it had not already been committed to the switch.
Java Cache:
If the EZManager progress bar stops at 93 percent when initializing switch details, you must clear the Java cache.
Loss of Connection:
Launching EZManager takes around 5 minutes when the machine where the client is running does not have access to
the Internet. This is due to the certificate revocation check for the Web start applications.
Workaround: Go to Java Control Panel > Advanced and select Do not check (not recommended) under Perform
signed code certificate revocation checks on to skip the certificate revocation check for Web start applications.
Enabling the EZ Server Option:
There is an option to enable EZ Server using the configure command from the CLI (Configure > EZserver
Enabled (yes, y, no, n): [yes] ). You cannot discover the switches when the EZ Server option is set to No,
and the changes will be effective only after restoring the default configuration and rebooting the switch.
