1. A cold water pipe and a hot water pipe are used to fill up a pool. When the 2 pipes are
turned on simultaneously, it takes 12 hours to fill up the pool. It takes 10 hours longer to
fill up the pool with the hot water pipe alone than the cold water pipe alone. Find the
time taken for the cold water pipe to fill up the pool alone. (5 marks)
2. (a) If 5𝑥 − 3𝑦 ≡ 𝐴𝑥 + 𝐵(𝑥 − 𝑦), find the values of the constants A and B. (3 marks)
(b) Hence, factorize 𝑥 2 − 𝑥𝑦 + 5𝑥 − 3𝑦 + 6. (4 marks)
3. It is given that 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 13 and 𝑎𝑏 = −2. If 𝑎 + 𝑏 > 0, find the values of:
(a) 𝑎 + 𝑏. (2 marks)

(c) 7(𝑏 − 5)(𝑏 + 2). (3 marks)
4. Refer to figure 1. Circle AE has B as the center. Circle BED has C as the center. Circles
BD and AC both have E as the center. It is given that AB‖EC. Solve for ∠AED. (5 marks)
5. Figure 2 shows a rectangular paper ABCD with AB = 16cm and AD = 10cm. It is then
folded along XY, A will coincide with C as shown. Find XB. (5 marks)
