4 TYpes of Basketry Technique
1. COILING- coiling involves taking a “core”

2. PLAITING- the simplest basket weaving
technique. The end result will typically be flat,
square, or rectangle-shaped basket.

3. WICKER-SPLINT- basketry is the process of


making baskets by taking pliable weft material
and lacing it over and under rigid warp

4. TWINNING- a basketry technique in which
two horizontal strands (wefts) cross over each
other between vertical strands (warps).

 Puni or Palm Leaf Folding (Bulacan)-

 Singkaban or Bamboo Art- the art of
shaving bamboo into artful creations that can be used
as a décor for arches or the home. Skilled craftsmen
patiently shave off the bamboo, layer by layer, to
create curls and delicate twirls of their
bamboo.
 Sanikulas Cookie Mold Carvings (Pampanga)- are arrow
roots cookies that have the image of St. Nicholas
(The Healer) molded on it. The molds are an
exceptional piece of folk’s art and rarity.
It is also made of hardwood and are of different
shapes and sizes.
 Pabalat Pastillas Wrapper Cutting Art-
was made out of delicate Japanese paper or papel de
hapon. The way it make is so delicate that only the
ones with skilled hands and
perfect control on their motor skills can produce the best
kind.
 Taka- in the Philippines, the first recorded of
a created Taka was by a woman named Maria
Bangue in the 1920’s. She has woooded molds that
were covered with strips of paper clipped in the sticky
paste. She would later paint them
carefully and present as children’s toys. Traditional

daga which made primarily for local use.
 Pagburda (Taal, Lumban, Laguna)- art of
embroiling is happily alive and flourishing the
towns. Although it’s mostly done by women who
are wives of the farmers and the fisherman, it is
not uncommon to see fisherman and farmers who are
also carefully and delicately embroidering floral designs
during their “off-season”. The designs are embroided by
hand on a variety of fabrics including fine cotton, just
