This guide is designed to show you the steps to get people in front of your lens and set you up to make a little cash in the process About your guide Photographers know, your portfolio is your most important marketing asset. It's a collection of photos showing your potential clients what they would be getting by booking a shoot with you. Without a portfolio, it's hard to move clients to the booking stage. Which is what we want, right? And yet surprisingly, this is where many photographers get stuck on their journey. They overthink the process, they don't know where to start, or they feel weird booking a client and charging for something they haven't done before. That's where a model call comes in. Model calls are a no pressure way to start building the portfolio, practice your craft and test your process. www.artofher.com ert What is a model call? Model calls help photographers capture the images they want in their portfolio. Model calls are an agreement between a photographer and a subject where the photographer takes images in exchange for images, products, or payment. Model calls can also involve time spent without making money. That's where the Profitable Portfolio Builder comes in. You can tweak every bit of this to work well for your business, but I'm going to give you suggestions that will help you grow and make a profit at the end of the day. When it comes to model calls, the devil is in the details. It's vitally important that, you are crystal clear with the person you choose to photograph what is and isn’t included in your agreement. SO before we move forward, decide what you'd like to offer, Decide who you want to work with, For most new personal brand photographers, that is business owners. You may already know you want to niche into something like just shooting realtors or just shooting creatives. If that’s the case, get more specific so that your portfolio reflects that. Decide what you're giving them in exchange for their time and a signed model release. | advise covering the session fee and their choice of 2-10 digital images. They do not have to purchase ANYTHING if they don't want to beyond what you're offering, but you want to create images so that they want to purchase more. It serves you both. www.artofher.com 2.Choose where to advertise Decide where you would like to post about your model call. www.artofher.com Choose where to advertise Now that we have all of your details in place, the next step is to decide where you would like to advertise your model call. You can use multiple. * Social Media (business or personal) + Email past clients or newsletter. * Ask friends and connections to share your model call * Directly offer your model call to a business (Instagram is great for this!) * Local Facebook Groups with business owners (after getting approval from the admin). * Offer it to your Local Business Bureau: + Facebook Ads (only if you know how to run ads). www.artofher.com Prete dei What will your model call look like? Who you are looking for? What are you wanting to add to your portfolio? If you already have a portfolio started, feel free to be more specific. Ex. I'm looking for 2 women owned realtor businesses that need images for marketing What are you offering in exchange for your models time? How long will you shoot, what will they walk away with? Ex. Session Fee ($650 value) in addition to a gift of 5 free digital images of their choice. Where will you be posting about your model call or advertising? This can be on your personal or business pages. Ex. On a Facebook group for local businesses and in an email to past clients. www.artofher.com 3. The application Setting up an application process allows you to find exactly what. you're looking for. www.artofher.com Oe 3 The application process When doing a model calll, you're investing your time and energy in the planning and execution phase, so it's best to ward off the people that may end up flaking out on you last minute or wasting your time. Asking people to apply can often show you who is more serious about booking a session, or show you who you would prefer to work with. When people reach out for more information, you can simply shoot them an email (swipeable copy written below) with the details of the model call and a link to the form to fill out. If you don’t have a studio management program like Honeybook or Dubsado that can handle contact forms for you, use a free program like Google Forms to put your questions together. A form looks professional and is not too difficult to set up, but you could also send a list of questions in an email. Just know that the more professional you look, the more seriously people will take you, the more invested they will be in putting effort into the session www.artofher.com Oh? I can’t script your phone call, but it’s important to take time to listen to lead the conversation. This is your portfolio session and you get to determine the parameters, but you should listen to their feedback on what would work best for their business Mention again what is included in return for their participation, and again mention that they can purchase additional digital images if they would like. Make sure you nail down the location, time and give advice on wardrobe and props during this call. www.artofher.com 5.Test your process This is an excellent opportunity to test your entire process in a low pressure environment. www.artofher.com Che? Test your Process During this stage, | highly suggest treating each model that you've chosen as though they were a paying client. You can start to test out your process in a low pressure environment to see if everything is working as it should. Pull out the questionnaire provided with the Blast Off Bundle and enter it into your system. Use their responses to come up with ideas and suggestions for their session. It may be that you've already decided which location you'll like in your portfolio, but advise them on props and wardrobe. This will be a huge part of your growth! Although | advise treating your models like they are your clients, that doesn't mean you need to shoot a full hour or four hours if that's what you'll be offering in the future. Make the details work for you. Make sure you have your payment processor set up and your prices in place before you get to the end.
