PRODUCTION OF TOMATO:

 The major Tomato producing States in the country are Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh,
Karnataka, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Haryana, Uttar
Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. These States are account for 91% of the total production
of the country. The production of Tomato during the year 2017-18 (First Advance Estimate) is
estimated to be 7.8% higher as compared to the previous year. However as compared to past 5
years average production, it is 20% higher. (Table-1.3).

 The details regarding seasonality and harvesting period of Tomato crop are given in (Table-1.1)

CURRENT STATUS OF SOWING OF TOMATO:

 The total sown area under Rabi Tomato is 260.41 Thousand Ha so far in the different States.
The final sowing /transplanting data for Rabi is still awaited from different States. The major
area sown are 38.81 Thousand Ha in Chhattisgarh, followed by Madhya Pradesh (37.01
Thousand Ha), Haryana (16.64 Thousand Ha), Uttar Pradesh (12.75 Thousand Ha), Tamil
Nadu (15.02 Thousand Ha), Rajasthan (12.50 Thousand Ha), Karnataka (9.47 Thousand Ha),
Himachal Pradesh (1.33 Thousand Ha).

The average weekly, monthly and yearly wholesale and retail prices of tomato in different markets and their variation percentage are given in Table-
3.1. The average wholesale monthly prices of Delhi and All India along with graphic presentation are given in Table-3.2 and Table-3.3 respectively.
