Principal's Perspective
ANZAC Day
Our senior History students led a magnificent whole school ANZAC Ceremony last
Wednesday. The stories and poems the students contributed reminded us all of the
commitment, sacrifice and camaraderie between people when our society needed it. Thank
you to the staff and students who attended the local Temora ANZAC Day commemoration
at the Cenotaph. We should all be proud to march and remember those before us and what
we stand for as a country.
Athletics Carnival
A great Athletics Carnival was held on the last day of term. After rain threatened to ruin the
day in the days leading up, it was a perfectly calm, partly cloudy athletics weather. Many
records were broken and congratulations to our record breakers and age champions. It was
a privilege to see so many students participating and enjoying having a go. Mr Groth’s
mathematic must be good as the scratch race calculations made the race amazingly close
and exciting to watch. The staff v Year 12 tug-o-war was pretty even until the students
gained the numbers advantage to take an overall win. Thank you to Mrs Pattingale and the
PE staff for organising. Thank you staff and students for a great day.
Attendance
Thank you to all the students that have an attendance level of more than 95%. Certificates
were handed out to students in year assemblies this week in recognition of strong
attendance. Every day matters and students must attend school every day. Thank you to
parents that ensure their child attends every day.

Olympic Speaker – Nicholas Timmings
Stage 5 students were privileged to meet Australian Olympic Skeleton champion, Nicholas
Timmings. Students and staff learnt about the sport of skeleton, Nicholas’s pathways to the
Olympics and positive messages. Nicholas encouraged us all to work hard, be passionate,
take opportunities and follow what you love to do. Great advice.
Mural Painting
Visiting Artist, Alex is working with our students to design and paint some murals around the
school. The work so far looks amazing. The Aboriginal Education Team will be working with
Alex to represent our school’s journey in the last five years on the water tanks near the
Yarning Circle. Great to have Alex with us to brighten up and capture stories for our school.
Congratulations
Grace Krause, Australian Athletic Champion and Commonwealth Youth Games qualifier.
Isabelle Slapp, was selected as a reserve for the State Dance Ensemble.
THS Dance Group who will be representing our school at the Riverina Dance Festival.
Trivia Night
Remember to register for the Year 12 Trivia Night. I’m sure the questions will not be too hard
and it will be an enjoyable night. Thank you for organising Year 12.

LIBRARY NEWS
We also talked about the important work being done on the Trove
database https://trove.nla.gov.au, which comprises a vast
resource of digitised images, newspapers, archived websites etc.
Trove is being created through the collaboration of the National
Library of Australia and partners, such as University, Public and some
School Libraries. Beth, is one of the numerous Trove volunteers who
correct the digitised text on Trove to improve the success rate for
those searching early Australian newspapers which are freely
accessible to all users. Trove is definitely worth logging onto and
having a look!

DANCE ENSEMBLE
Congratulations to Isabelle Slapp,
who has been selected on the
reserve list for the 2023 State
Dance Ensemble. This is a huge
achievement as students from
Years 9 to 12 can audition and we
are excited to see what the future
brings.
The students in the class are currently building their own classroom
and kitchen by refurbishing an existing shed. Students cleaned a
large storage shed and sorted out timber accumulated over time
at Temora High School. The students will be able to use this timber
for a variety of different projects.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
We had wonderful weather and fantastic participation from
Temora High School students at our annual Athletics
Carnival on the last day of Term 1. The day started early with
a large contingency of students lining up to compete in the
1500m. Sasha Curry, the distance specialist, took out the
1500m with a new record for the 12-14yrs girls, with a time of
5:19.
Always hotly contended was the 100m sprint. Students
demonstrated patronage to their house as they sped down
the track. Grace Krause was a stand out taking out the 16
Years Girls 100m with a new record time of 11.84. Sienna
Botha also broke a record for the 12 Years Girls 100m, with a
time of 14.19.
Jocelyn Keith is now the new record holder for 14 Years Girls
Long Jump with 4.69m.

Year 12 were kept busy on the BBQ selling bacon and egg rolls and baked
goodies to raise funds for their up and coming graduation.
The highlight of the day was the Golden Gift style handicap race with the
mathematics carefully calculated by Mr Groth. The 8 fastest runners of the
day, male and female, lined up to see who could take out the Gift. It comes
as no surprise that Grace Krause was the victor for the girls and Daylen
Coleman was the victor for the boys! Whilst the points tally was extremely
close, Spitfire was the strongest house on the day, taking home the winners
trophy.
Thank you to the wonderful staff and students at our school for
participating in this event.
