Jeon So Yeon (전소연)

Born in 26 August 1998 in South Korea, Seoul, is a Korean idol. She is the
leader and member of the K-pop group (G)I-DLE.
She appeared in many variety Korean shows, such as, Produce 101 and Unpretty
Rapstar 3, where she was addressed as a tough and strong rapper because of
her rapping and lyrical skills. Despite all the compliments she was still
diminished because of her looks. She then signed a contract under the company
of Cube Entertainment, where she was presented as the company’s next artist.
Being in the company, at the age of 19, she released her first digital single
called “Jelly” and “Idle song”, both written and produced by her.
On 11 January 2018, it was announced that she would be debuting in the new
company’s K-pop group (G)I-DLE, that consists of five members, she was
presented as the leader and main rapper of the group.
Companies usually prepare the group’s debut song, but Cube Entertainment
didn’t. In consequence Jeon So Yeon was attributed with the writing and
producing of the song, Latata. The group’s debut was acclaimed by both critics
and Koreans, and they got to break various records.
Ever since the group’s debut, she started to write and produce all the future
songs. This isn’t normal in the K-pop world. The groups are usually given the
songs written and produced, and all they have to do is sing it and practice the
choreography. Jeon So Yeon is the exception, she is the first Korean idol to
write a mini album all by herself without the help of other co-writers.
She also got to collaborate with one of the most gigantic gaming companies in
the world, Riot Games. She was called to impersonate and give voice to the
character of Akali, for the virtual K-pop group called K/DA. The song
“Popstars” was a huge success with now being one of the most heard K-pop
songs.
