Random Packing - an inexpensive boost to
capacity and efficiency

For more than a century, random column packing has

been successfully employed in distillation, absorption,
stripping, heat transfer and scrubbing columns -
an inexpensive means of increasing capacity and
efficiency.

In addition to our industry-leading ESP brand of

products and components, we also manufacture a
comprehensive range of industry-standard generic
packing. You can be confident that our generic
packing, built upon a history of well documented
operational performance, will match your budget and
your performance needs.

ESP Metal - third generation high performance,
high capacity random packing

ESP (Enhanced Separation Performance) is the

brand name of Kdss equipment with advanced
features designed in. All developed from our own
practical, 'hands on' industry expertise.

ESP Metal Packing is our range of high performance

column packing. The basic shape bears resemblance
to other high performance packing elements but with
subtle enhancements to improve randomness, liquid
spreading and mechanical strength. The result is a
robust and cost effective 3rd generation high capacity
random packing solution.

ESP Metal Packing can be supplied in most metallic

materials, such as carbon steel, stainless steel,
aluminium, titanium, zirconium and high nickel alloys
and is currently available in sizes #25, #40, #50 and
#70.

Design integrity - process and mechanical - is all part

of the ESP promise.
ESP Plastic - reducing drag,
maximizing mass transfer

Our ESP range also includes plastic packing that

retains the basic slotted ring heritage, with an open
skeletal structure, typical of high performance
thermoplastic random packing.

Or you could choose an enhanced version, designed

to maximise available surface and mechanical
strength.

Its conical shape is proven to reduce drag, resulting

in lower pressure drop whilst increasing accessibility
to the inner surface. All designed to achieve higher
mass transfer efficiency.

ESP Structured Column Packing - corrugated configurations
for optimum performance

ESP structured packing is a family of packing solutions offering a wide range of

corrugated sheet and surface configurations for optimum performance.

ESP structured packing is manufactured in a wide range of sizes by varying the

crimp altitude. Packing surface ranges from 50 m²/m³ (lowest efficiency, highest
capacity) to 750 m²/m³ (highest efficiency, lowest capacity). The product is
manufactured with two standard crimp angles:

Styles include:
• Style R - a 45° crimp for most distillation applications
• Style S - a 60° crimp for high liquid rate applications, such as heat
transfer beds
• Style HC - an optimised fine dimple pattern embossed on the surface
to maximise liquid spreading and wetting ability

Type EM range uses the industry-standard embossed sheet metal design

and is available with surfaces ranging from below 100 m²/m³ for high capacity
applications, to over 500 m²/m³ for high efficiency applications.

Type EM is available in Style R for most distillation applications, Style S for

high liquid rate applications, and our recently developed Style HC for enhanced
capacity with no loss of efficiency.
Type WG uses corrugated wire gauze sheets to provide improved liquid wetting,
offering enhanced separation characteristics for fine chemicals separations. It is,
therefore, normally manufactured with a very high surface area (500 m²/m³ and
750 m²/m³).

Type EP is a thermoplastic version of the Type EM, for use in corrosive services.

ESP structured packing may be constructed from almost any commercial metal,
including carbon steel, stainless steels (type 410, 304 & 316), duplex steels,
aluminium, copper alloys, nickel alloys, titanium and zirconium.
ESP Heavy Duty Column Packing - open, robust
grid design

ESP Heavy Duty Packing is a rigid and mechanically

robust packing solution with a 60° corrugation
angle, relatively large corrugations and a smooth
surface, designed to minimise liquid hold-up. Your
reassurance of greater resistance to fouling from
solids contamination, polymer formation and coking.

Its very open and robust design is especially

suitable for fouling services such as atmospheric
and vacuum crude tower wash beds, as well as
slurry pumparound beds in FCC main fractionators.
Having a high liquid rate capacity, ESP Heavy Duty
Column Packing also performs well in heat transfer
applications where separation efficiency is not critical.

Available in most grades of stainless steel (1mm

thick standard gauge). Other materials and gauge
thicknesses are available on request.
Reactor Internals - to the tightest specification

We manufacture a full range of reactor internals to the tightest client

specification. And we can complement this with a complete installed option, with
the guarantee of full compliance with your specifications.

Replacement Tray Hardware

We give full support to operating companies, providing replacement hardware
for both planned and emergency shutdowns. Our stocks of hardware and spares
are available to complement other manufacturers' trays and internals as well as
our own.

We can provide to order or from our extensively stocked trailers, which can be
situated on-site during shutdown periods.

Our trailers can also contain a large range of PPE, as a service to personnel
working during these hectic periods. Both the replacement items and PPE
are on a 'sale as used' basis. We even provide credit card facilities for ease of
payment.
Process Internals
Packing Support Plates
The ESP range of packing support grids have a more open grid structure
and are compatible with the layer design of structured packing. Multiple beam
designs are available for random rings.

Liquid Distributors
ESP High Efficiency Liquid Distributors are designed specifically for accurate
distribution in critical service applications.

Metering of the liquid is by orifices punched in the trough sidewalls, above the
level of the trough bottoms, allowing solids to settle out on the floor of the trough.
This makes the designs particularly suitable for use in low to moderate fouling
services.

Drip-guides, fitted to the exterior of the troughs and extending to within 25mm
of the top of the packed bed, effectively eliminate liquid maldistribution and
entrainment induced by the effects of vapour flow.

The ESP ensures high quality liquid distribution (Standard Deviation below
5%) through drip points arranged on a standard 100mm square pitch (100
distribution points per square meter) across the complete tower cross-section.
Additional drip point locations may be included, where necessary, to ensure the
same drip point density is maintained in the outer peripheral area.
ESP Separator Internals - effective, reliable
performance

Based on well established, industry standard design

concepts, our range of ESP Separator Internals have
developed unique mechanical enhancements to
ensure effective and reliable performance.

Rigorous separation efficiency and capacity

modelling takes full account of both equipment
geometry, as well as system physical properties, to
further enhance their performance.

ESP Vane Mist Eliminators

Specially profiled chevron style baffle plates are the
secret of our ESP range of mist eliminators.

Features include:
• No Drainage Channels
• Open Drainage Channels (Single Pocket)
• Enclosed Drainage Channels (Double Pocket)
• Fouling Resistance can be accommodated
within the range.
ESP Mesh Mist Eliminators
Our ESP range of high efficiency knitted mesh
pads covers applications including dirty, ultra high
efficiency, fine mist (coalescer), and corrosive duty
service.

All are offered with top and bottom grids and fixing
hardware. Pad thickness offered for general purpose
applications would be our standard 100mm and,
where higher efficiency or fouling applications are
required, 150mm.

ESP Coalescers
If your process requires the separation of two or three
phases, ESP Coalescers perform very effectively,
whether selected for our parallel plate or corrugated
plate styles.

Designed and manufactured for ease of installation

and removal for maintenance, ESP Coalescers are
well proven across many applications.
ESP Distillation Trays
ESP Mini Fixed Valves
Our ESP Mini Fixed Valve offers a low cost option,
having a wider operating range than sieve trays. Mini
Fixed Valves have no moving parts, are extremely
robust and have proven fouling resistance properties.
Leg height obtained with ESP valves can be greater
than almost anything available today.

ESP Float Valves

Unlike the conventional float valve, our ESP Float
Valve incorporates unique features that result in a
very robust design to reduce valve loss, a built-in
antirotation mechanism, easy in-situ replacement and
fixed orientation for maximum turndown.

ESP Cage Valves

For applications requiring good turndown in an
unstable service, ESP Caged Valves are the answer.
Although more expensive than float type valves,
losses in service are minimal.

Sieves
Sieve tray designs probably provide the majority of
installed tray types used in the process industry and
are widely accepted due to their excellent operating
characteristics, low cost Investment and low
maintenance requirements.

Standard Float Valves

Standard float valves are the workhorse of valve tray
configurations available today. They offer turndown
flexibility and a choice of valve thicknesses to
accommodate most requirements.

Bubble Caps
A well proven, tested device for use in many
applications requiring high operating flexibility.
Construction can be made suitable for leak-tight
performance or for standard assembly methods,
using a wide range of materials.
