COMPARATIVE AND SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVES


Actividad de pre saber
1. Make comparative sentences using the following nouns and adjectives

Butterfly – flower colorful

Elephant – mouse big

Car – bicycle fast

2. Make superlative sentences using the following nouns and adjectives

Giraffe tall

Lamborghini expensive

3. Compare your sentences with this sentences and the answer the questions

Teoria:
Los comparativos sirven justamente para comparar una misma cualidad o característica en dos sustantivos. En inglés, los
adjetivos comparativos se forman teniendo en cuenta el número de sílabas, así:

1. Cuando el adjetivo es de una o dos silabas se agrega la terminación ER

Se agrega al adjetivo "er" o "r", si ya termina en "e".


small - smaller

Si la palabra termina en vocal + consonante, se duplica la consonante.


big - bigger

Si termina en "y" se cambia por "ier".


happy – happier

2. Cuando el adjetivo tiene más de tres sílabas, el comparativo se forma usando la palabra "more" adelante.
Beautiful – more beautiful

Para comparar dos objetos en una misma oración, se agrega "than".

 This shirt is smaller than that shirt. 


Esta camisa es más chica que aquella camisa.

 This dog is bigger than that cat. 


Este perro es más grande que aquel gato.

El superlativo en inglés se utiliza para resaltar una característica de un objeto, persona o animal, que lo hace diferente al resto
del grupo en el que se encuentra. En inglés, los adjetivos superlativos se forman teniendo en cuenta el número de sílabas, así:

1. Cuando el adjetivo es de una o dos silabas se agrega la terminación EST

 Se agrega al adjetivo "est" o "st", si ya termina en "e".


small - the smallest

 Si la palabra termina en vocal + consonante, se duplica la consonante.


big - the biggest

 Si termina en "y" se cambia por "iest".


happy - the happiest

2. Cuando el adjetivo tiene más de tres sílabas, el superlativo se forma usando las palabras "the most" adelante.

expensive - the most expensive
careful - the most careful

Para hacer una frase superlativa, se agrega "the" antes del adjetivo:

The most creative project will win the contest

También existen adjetivos irregulares en inglés, que no se rigen por las reglas mencionadas anteriormente. Algunos de

Hi, my name is Violet Parr, I’m 14 years old and I live in the center of New York. Let me introduce you to my family, I’ll start
talking about my youngest brother (1) Jack Jack. He’s only 1 years old, weighs only 13 kilos and his main power is shape
shifting, it means he can change into different forms. Then, I’ll continue talking about my younger brother (2) Dash. He is 10
years old but he can run faster than anyone in the family but I’m stronger (3) than him. He also has special powers like me. We
can become invisible and we have elastic arms (4) but mum says that we can’t use our powers unless we are in danger (5). To
