1. Purpose
This specification covers the minimum requirements for the design, material
selection, supply, inspection, testing and painting of Pumps
2. Scope
The scope will comprise of supply of pumps with necessary services as and when
required.
3. Cost competitive engineering and design
The equipment / system selection should be done based on life cycle cost. This
should be done without compromising any specification and design requirements.
4. Conflicts and Deviations
Any conflict between any requirements specified in this document and
requirements of any other relevant referenced document shall be resolved in the
following order of preference:

The seller of any equipment shall bring any conflict or deviation to the notice of
the buyer or owner in writing and obtain a resolution in writing during the
quotation stage.

It is the Seller’s responsibility to obtain all project specifications and standards
referred to in this document, and familiarise himself with the requirements
contained therein.
8. Basic Design/Assembly/Methodology:
8.1. CAPACITY
Pumps shall be capable of being operated as single or in parallel combinations
from minimum to maximum capacity and free of cavitation-sourced hydraulic or
mechanical deterioration type damage over the entire range of operation.
8.2. CASING
Pumps shall be designed for removal of the rotating parts without disturbing the
piping.
Casing shall be designed to withstand forces and moments from thermal
expansion and contraction of the piping. Seller shall state forces and moments
acceptable on the pump nozzles in his quotation.
Corrosion allowance for all carbon steel/cast iron part should be minimum 3 mm
while that for SS component should be minimum 1 mm.
Pump shall be provided with casing/impeller wear rings. Minimum hardness
difference of 50 BHN shall be maintained between impeller and casing wear rings,

and minimum hardness of wear ring shall be 250 BHN. Wear rings should have
interference fit with grub screw to prevent relative motion with the part on which
it is fitted.
Self-venting casings are preferred.
The direction of rotation shall be permanently marked on the casing.
8.3. BASE FRAME
Base frame shall preferably be common to pump and motor and of MS.
The channels & angles used for fabrication shall not have any defects like pitting,
rusting, slag inclusions, laminations etc. The casting used in manufacture shall be
free from defects like porosity, blisters, cracks etc.
The Duty / Name plate, in SS construction, should be permanently fitted on pump
and should contain item no., bearing no., year of manufacture, Seller’s and
Purchaser’s name, input kW, speed of pump and total weight of equipment etc.
Casing drain shall be provided with valve as per piping spec. and shall be
terminated at baseplate edges.
The pumps shall be equipped with lifting lugs for handling of pumps and sub-
assemblies.
8.4. IMPELLAR & SHAFT
Impeller shall be adequately secured to the shaft to prevent them from coming
loose under all conditions of operation including temperature extremes and
reverse rotation.
All impellers shall be statically balanced.
Impeller assembly shall be dynamically balanced on its own shaft.
Where shaft sleeves are fitted these shall extend along the shaft to afford
adequate protection to the shaft in connection with both wear and corrosion.
8.5. COUPLING & SEALS
Spacer type couplings shall be supplied, for ease of maintenance of the pump or
seals.
If flexible disc couplings are provided, the discs shall be stainless steel unless
otherwise specified.
Supply of coupling, fixing and alignment shall be by pump seller.
All exposed rotating parts, shafts and couplings, etc. shall be fully protected with
removable guards of a robust and rigid design.
Non-sparking type guards shall be provided.
Pumps with mechanical seals shall be initially fitted with CS shaft sleeve, gland
plate and packing prior to dispatch. After installation and pre-commissioning at
site seller shall replace this with conversion kit (including SS shaft sleeve and seal
gland plate) and job mechanical seal.

Where appropriate to the pump and driver type, it is preferred that mechanical
seals shall be replaceable without disturbing the driver.
Mechanical seal installation at site shall be by pump seller.
8.6. LUBRICATION & BEARINGS
Oil lubrication is preferred.
Oil lubricated pumps shall be provided with visual oil level indicators.
The seller shall state recommended lubricants, frequency of oil changes and
capacity of oil reservoirs.
Anti-friction bearing selection shall be based upon a minimum life of L10 -25,000
hours at rated conditions.
Bearing shall be adequate to absorb axial thrust in either direction together with
the thrust produced during full load conditions and due to shaft expansion at
operating temperature.
Bearing housings shall be constructed to protect the bearings from water, dust
and other contaminants. Wherever required bearing shall be water-jacketed.
8.7. PERFORMANCE
Pumps shall have stable head/capacity curves with continuous rise to shut-off.
Shut-off head shall be at least 105% of the rated head.
The performance curve shall also show NPSHR over the full operating range.
Motor drivers for pumps covered by this standard shall have kW rating including
service factor, if any at least equal to the following percentage of pump rated
brake kW.

Net positive suction head required (NPSHR) shall be determined at rated capacity
as the suction head in meters (feet) of water above vapour pressure either when
cavitation begins or where a 3% drop in head occurs. The NPSH of multi-stage
pumps shall be determined by the performance of the first stage impeller only.
NPSHR shall be as per the remark given on pump data sheet.
It is preferred that a pump should be offered such that at rated condition an
additional head of 10% can be achieved by using an impeller of larger diameter.
The performance curves head, efficiency NPSH and power input must be
furnished for all three (maximum, rated minimum) sizes of the impeller. Further
the duty point should be clearly marked for all items in respective curves.
If the speed of the pump is specified in the data sheet, this speed shall preferably
be considered when selecting the pump size.

The operating speed of the pump shall not be closer to critical speed to have
vibration free running at operating conditions. The margin shall be as per relevant
pump design standard followed by the seller or at least + 30% of operating speed
particularly for multi-stage pump, the critical speed calculations also be
submitted.
If the pump data sheet specifies pumps working in parallel, all pumps shall have
the same performance curve and shall be satisfactorily operable.
The seller shall state the minimum continuous stable flow at rated speed without
excessive vibration, temperature rise or radial thrust.
If the specified operating minimum flow is less than pump minimum flow, the
seller shall allow for a continuous by-pass quantity equal to the difference
between them. In such cases the pump minimum flow shall be added to the
pump rated flow for pump design.
The pump shall be non overloading type i.e. at any operating point on the curve,
the motor should not get overloaded. Motor rating should be selected
accordingly.
8.8. GENERAL
Fasteners bolts / studs / nuts coming in contact with liquid shall be of same
material as that of casing / impeller and shall be able to resist high
temperature/corrosion due to operating conditions.
Standard bolts / studs / nuts of alloy / carbon steel may be used for external
application only. For vertical pumps the submerged bolting should be in SS
construction only.
The bought out items like bearings, oil seals, couplings, gland packing etc. shall be
of standard reputed make and the manufacturer shall give all particulars (like
bearings numbers, packing size etc.) of the same.
Seller shall drill and tap the Motor Holding down Bolt holes for which the
Purchaser shall furnish the Motor Frame size wherever Purchaser supplies the
Motor.
Double row thrust bearing shall be provided at outboard end.
Mating flanges shall be supplied with gasket, nuts and bolts.
All performance data given in Data Sheets are for working fluid.
Seller if required shall supply orifice plates, piping for API plan.
Pumps operating close to shut-off head shall be provided with bearings of
reinforced construction wherever not specified.
Suction / discharge nozzles loading confirm to API 610 Latest Edition.
Noise levels shall not exceed 70 dB (A) taken at 1 mtr from the pump.
8.9. PAINTING
Prior to painting of the equipment, all surfaces shall be thoroughly de-scaled and
cleaned. The surface shall be quite dry and free from rust, scale, sharp points,

burrs, weld spatter, flux, dust, grease, oil and other foreign materials before paint
is applied.
The equipment shall be painted with one coat of zinc silicate primer and two
coats of finish paint in light Blue shed. The Amine or Polyamide cured high build
epoxy type of the paint shall be provided.
The total dry film thickness shall be 3.0 mils minimum for primer and 12 to 18 mils
minimum for finish paint.
8.10. MATERIAL OF CONSTRUCTION
Pump Casing Cast Iron
Impeller Bronze
Wear Ring Cast Iron / Bronze.
Shaft Carbon Steel.
Shaft Sleeve Cast Iron / Bronze.
Gland Bronze.
8.11. INSTRUMENTATION
All controls and instrumentation equipment necessary for operation and control
of the pump supplied shall be furnished. The instrumentation of the pump shall
be according to Instrument Specification for Package Units.
The supply of instruments and control devices shall be coordinated with the Buyer
so that common manufacturers and model number of such items are used
whenever possible.
8.12. SPARE PARTS & TOOLS
A list of spare parts along with prices required for the first one year of normal and
satisfactory operation and a recommended list of other parts that are considered
essential to be stocked even when these are not likely to be replaced in the first
two years shall be submitted along with the bid.
8.12.1. Special tools if required for proper maintenance of the pump shall be listed and
included in the scope of supply.
8.12.2. Spare impeller, if supplied, shall be with maximum diameter.
It shall be seller's responsibility to ensure that the spare parts supplied are similar
to and will have interchange ability with those fitted in the main item. The seller
shall offer the inspection of spares before dispatching the same.
8.13. ERECTION AND INITIAL OPERATION
The purchaser in accordance with the drawings shall erect pumps and
information’s furnished by the seller.
The purchaser in accordance with the loading and recommendations furnished by
the seller will furnish foundations.

If required, the seller should be able to provide for erection and start up
supervision, at the stated fee, which may be quoted in the bid.
8.14. PACKING AND DESPATCH
Goods shall be securely packed to withstand all hazards in transit up-to
destination. Two copies of packing list mentioning net weight of goods shall be
sent along with-packing boxes.
After dispatch of goods, the seller shall inform dispatch particulars immediately by
fax/e-mail to take care of transit insurance formalities, if the seller does not cover
transit risk.
8.15. GUARANTEE
The seller shall guarantee the satisfactory workmanship and performance of the
goods for a period specified in ‘General conditions of purchase’. If during that
time the goods are found by ordering authority to be structurally, mechanically,
electrically or otherwise defective, seller shall at their own expenses, furnish field
supervision services and repair or replace such defective goods on the basis of
F.O.R. Plant Site, within reasonable time and without holding up work.
9. Accessories:
All standard accessories are already included in the chiller specification and
requirements.
10. Inspection and Testing:
No repairs shall be carried out to any component without prior written permission
from the Purchaser. The seller shall submit, in each case, a repair procedure for
review.
The seller shall supply material test certificates, when specified, and all shop and
performance test data.
The final inspection shall be carried out at Seller's Works and following tests will
be carried out by authorized representative/consultant of the Purchaser.
Hydrostatic test of pressure parts at 1.5 times operating pressure for minimum 30
minutes.
Performance test measuring head capacity and power at minimum five points.
Dimensional check as per certified drawings.
Material check (Certificate required for physical and chemical properties).
Mechanical running test at full load for 4 hours.
Test for NPSH requirement of pump shall be made by Vacuum vessel method at
six points.
Visual check of dismantled pump after shop test.
Static / dynamic balancing of impeller assembly at rated speed.

Measurement records including valuation, calculations actual tolerances on
closely fitted parts like wear rings, bushes, impellers to casing etc.
The seller shall furnish all the facilities required for inspection/test mentioned in
above at their works.
In case motor is out of pump manufacturer's scope, a suitable calibrated test
motor shall be used for shop testing. If motor is in pump manufacturer's scope,
job/test motor, as agreed, shall be used for shop testing.
11. Preparation for shipment:
All the imported Material/System should be supplied in seaworthy packing and
local material as per the relevant standard specified in order.
12. Vendor Data Requirement:
12.1. Seller shall furnish all the documents for purchaser's approval as per Drawing
Data Schedule Engineering Sheet.
12.2. Following documents shall be submitted along with the bid:
12.2.1. Filled in data sheets as per format given with Material Requisition.
12.2.2. General arrangement drawing showing approximate area, completed details of
pump foundation, material specifications
12.2.3. Performance and Gd2 curve (Torque speed curve)
12.2.4. Any non-compliance with material requisition and attached specifications
12.2.5. Quality assurance / ISO related documents
12.2.6. HSE policy documents
12.2.7. All documents specified as per Material Requisition attachments shall be
submitted after award.
