The primary intention of the drug and alcohol policy is to ensure that employees do not:

 Report for work under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.

 Consume illegal drugs or alcohol whilst on duty or during breaks in the working day.
 Consume or possess illegal drugs or alcohol on operational premises.

You should start work with a zero alcohol level. When working, the guide for alcohol consumption
states that you should not consume any alcohol in the 8 hours before starting work and, in the 24
hours prior to that, should not consume more than 7 units of alcohol.

A General guide to alcohol contents in units is:

 Half a pint of ordinary strength beer, lager or cider is 1 unit.
 1 small glass of wine is 1 ½ units.
 1 25ml pub measure of spirits is 1 unit

As an employee/contractor you should be aware of the legislation concerning drugs, which are:
 To use, possess, consume, store or sell illicit drugs on premises or to report for work having
taken such drugs will result in disciplinary action which may lead to summary dismissal.
 You should be aware that work performance and safety can be impaired by the taking of
drugs, including those medically prescribed or available without prescription.

If anyone is suspected of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol whilst at work, they may be
requested to take a drug and alcohol test. Refusal to take the test will be seen as a positive result an
will result in disciplinary proceedings and potential loss of employment. We operate random testing
regimes.

When working on any site, if you have taken any prescribed medication you should advise their
manager before commencing work. This is to ensure that you are fit to carry out your normal duties
and will not pose a danger to yourself or others.

Please remember that alcohol can still be in your blood stream the next day and you may unwillingly
be over the limit to work.

In the event of a drug and alcohol test, you must declare any medication you may have taken prior to
the test being carried out.
