2. How does “folk literature” play a vital role in literature, culture, and language learning? Cite specific
situations or examples.

Folk literature has a vital role in the field of literature, culture, and language learning since it will make
essential things exist from generation to generation. Folk literature plays important role in culture since
it gives importance to our traditions as well as to our beliefs. It emphasizes the beliefs which are from the
ancient people, from the previous decades or even centuries which still exist in this current generation.
For instance, the religion of Christianity, which emerged in the middle of the first century, is still practiced
today. On the other hand, which is passed from generation to generation.

While in literature, folk literature makes the written forms more concise and makes it more creative in
various forms. As time goes by, the historic written works would undergo significant changes. For instance,
the ballad entitled “Hawak Kamay” by Yeng Constantino undergoes significant changes such as its tones,
while some had made it into remixes. Like my cousin’s job, she’s the one who will check the author’s
article and edit the grammar errors to enable that article to become articulate before it was published.

However, in language learning, it enhances people’s capabilities and also in acquiring new languages
throughout the different cultures which people might encounter, the different organizations make
language learning important as it will be useful especially in communicating with others. Like what I
experienced when I went to my Aunt’s house which is in Bacolod to give the painting that she bought from
me, and to attend her daughter’s baptism as well. I stayed there for about 3 days, and I was able to learn
some of their language which is Ilonggo.

3. Statement 3: “Nowadays people are beginning to recognize the power of these ancient tales, for the
functions of myth in primitive societies, is not just entertainment but “edutainment”.

I agree with this statement since, during the ancient generation, technologies don’t exist yet and there
are no such things yet compared to what we have now. Ancient tales would undoubtedly be entertaining,
and I assumed that they had been wonderfully created, which would have caught our interest given how
distinct they were from the tales produced throughout this generation. And I also agree that the ancient
tales of the functions of myth would also teach us a lesson or would probably give us such educational
entertainments that will also give us realizations and learnings. Like way back when I was in the
elementary level, the ancient tale entitled Noah’s Ark is the tale that my grandpa usually tells me enabling
me to learn, but I’d choose to play with my friends instead of listening to my grandpa. I haven’t seen and
realized how nice and interesting that tale is, but now, it gives me the courage to emphasize and
understand how amazing it was made as well as the content of that tale compared to some tales that I’ve
read which published during this generation.
