Q&A
Q.DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN EVAPORATION & BOILING
 .Boiling
 (1) It is a bulk phenomenon

 .(2) It occurs only at the boiling temperature(373K)

 .(3) It does not cause cooling.( causes burns)

 Evaporation
 (1) It is a surface phenomenon.

 (2) It occurs at all temperatures.

 (3) It causes cooling.

 What happens to the melting point of water when salt is
added?

 Salt lowers the freezing/melting point of water,( so in both cases

the idea is to take advantage of the lower melting point.) ... When
you add salt, that temperature drops: A 10-percent salt solution
freezes at 20 °F (-6 °C).

So a pure substance will always melt at 273 K

What happens when salt is added to water-
boiling point?
Adding salt to water increases B.P. Whenever
you add non-volatile solute like , salt to a solvent
like water boiling point shall increase. This is
called Boiling Point Elevation.

So pure water will always boil at 373K

Food will cook faster in salt water because

it will boil at a higher temperature
 What is FREEZING MIXTURE ? Where is it used?
It is mixture which is generally used to achieve
temperature less than 0°C, . i.e. below
the freezing point of water.
It can consist of two or more components,
e.g. ice water and salt.

Uses—
Make matka kulfi
Melt ice on roads .
