Compressive Strength of Hydraulic Cement Mortars
Scope
This test method covers the determination of the compressive
strength of hydraulic cement mortars, using 2 in (50 mm) cube
specimens.

 Mortar is used between bricks, stones, etc. to bond them together.

 Mortar is also used in plasterwork and secure ceramic tile to floors.

 Moreover, mortar block is placed under reinforcement to maintain

cover.

Compressive Strength of Hydraulic Cement Mortars
Significance
 Properties of cement mortar such as durability, porosity, shear or tensile
strength related to its compressive strength.

 The compressive strength of different kinds of cement will be different.

This test is thus indicative of the quality of cement.

Definition
 Pressure: Pressure is defined as external force per unit area
applied to an object in a direction perpendicular to the
surface.
 Stress: It is defined as resisting force per unit area produced
by the molecules of the body to counteract the pressure.
 Strength: The strength of something is how much stress it
can take before it fails.
 Compressive Strength: Maximum stress a material can
sustain under crush loading. Compressive strength is
calculated by dividing the maximum load by the original
cross-sectional area of a specimen
