ABOUT

The Boo! Vest pattern is a simple, relatively chunky, striped knit. The pattern can be worked up in about a week and is
written for beginner/advanced beginner knitter. The vest is knit up in 2 panels, all seamed together and then complet-
ed with a neckline and armholes that are knit along the edge of the vest. Knitting charts are provided for the double
stitch writing. The pattern includes sizes XS to 3XL and the sample is knit in size S.

The techniques you will need to know are knit, purl, 1x1 rib, cast on, cast off, k2tog and ssk1. However, if you are a
relative beginner looking for a challenge, photos and video links are included at the very end of the pattern.

INSTRUCTIONS and TIPS

The vest is worked in two pieces. The front and back panels are worked from the bottom up and seamed together.
Then the neckline and armholes are knit by picking up stitches along the edge of the vest. The pattern is written for
size S with differing instructions for the larger sizes shown increasing in brackets, ie. (XS) S (M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL)

When casting on, leave a long enough tail to sew in the side seams - roughly one and a half times the cast-on. And,
when knitting the neckline, keep the tension loose so your head can fit through the band.
Sizes listed in the pattern will be in (X SMALL) SMALL (MEDIUM, LARGE, X LARGE, 2XL, 3XL) E.g. Number of
stitches for the front body’s cast-on is listed below as Cast on (60 for size XS) 66 for size S (74 for size M, 84 for size
L, 90 for size XL, 98 for size 2XL and 104 for size 3XL). When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.

SEAMING
1. Using your crochet hook or tapestry needle, attach the two shoulder seams together. You can use safety pins on
both ends to stabilise the two pieces first. Sew both shoulders using the mattress stitch to create an invisible seam.
2. Pin the underarm points together to stabilise. Working with the yarn that has been left over from the cast on, seam
from the bottom of the body edge up to the underarms. Starting from the bottom of the body rib with the half stitch
weave and then seaming up the rest using mattress/ vertical invisible seam.

NECKLINE
Green yarn
Row 1 - Pick up sts around the edge of the neckline starting at one of the shoulder seams.
Total sts around neckline are (62) 62 (62, 70, 70, 70, 70)
Rows 2 to 10 - k1, p1 to create 1x1 rib.
Black yarn
Row 11 to 19 - continue in 1x1 rib
Cast off in 1x1 rib

ARMHOLES
Black yarn
Row 1 - Pick up 3 stitches every 4 rows around the armholes starting at one of the seams. (see link no. 5 on the last
page for help with this section)
Total sts around each armhole are (98) 100 (102, 104, 106, 108, 110)
Rows 2 to 4 - continue in 1x1 rib
Cast off in 1x1 rib

DOUBLE STITCH DETAIL

Switch to the daffodil yellow yarn. Using an embroidery needle or crochet hook embroider the letters using the chart
on the next page. You can mark the middle of your vest with a stitch marker to help you get started. Have a look at
the helpful videos at the end of the file to help you with this section.
