PMI's Portfolio management professional certification

(PfMP) includes 2 main steps:

- Application, which includes detailed description of an

applicant's experience;

- exam.

By the moment, I decided to apply for PfMP certification, I

had 2 successfully finished portfolios, one in the area of
virtual education and another in mobile app development.

Experience description is based on 5 portfolio

management domains, as in Portfolio management
standard v.3.

A candidate must clearly describe her/his experience, give

details of portfolios, but it is necessary strictly follow PMI's
portfolio terminology.

The application is reviewed and can be approved, or

rejected, or send for corrections. The feedback from a
review panel is clear and helpful.

The exam is based on two versions - 3 and 4 - of PMI

Standard of Portfolio management and practical experience
as well.
Preparation included careful reading and analyzing both
versions of standards, Udemy sample tests, and a number
of another sample tests (both free and proprietary).

For example,

Content Outline clearly describes types of tasks. In my

experience about 20-25% of questions are methodological,
and require knowledge of processes, their inputs, tools,
techniques and outputs.

Other questions are practically oriented.

Exam can be taken only at the accredited centers Pearson

VUE. No online.

Exam contains 170 questions, which should be passed

during 240 minutes, no breaks.

In my opinion it's enough time to pass the exam in a quiet

mode.

I recommend to implement 3 iterations schema.

The first iteration is the most important, a candidate

carefully analyzez each question, defines an answer. It is
strongly recommended to make notes. on a paper, which is
available.

At the second iteration a candidate examines marked

questions, controls his/her notes.

And at the third iteration a candidate checks the most

difficult questions.

The results, as usual, are available immediately. PMI

receives exam results and issues PfMP certificate and badge
during next 1-3 days.
