REFLECTION PAPER

I recently attended a talk at University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi about resolving conflicts and
peacemaking, and it was an enlightening experience. The talk provided me with new insights into the root
causes of conflicts and the different strategies that can be used to resolve them peacefully. Conflict is an
inevitable part of human interaction. Whenever people come together, differences in opinion, values, and
goals can arise, leading to conflict. While conflict is normal, how it is handled can determine whether it
becomes a destructive force or an opportunity for growth and development. Resolving conflict and
peacemaking require a set of skills, including effective communication, active listening, empathy, respect,
and compromise.

During the talk, the speaker emphasized that conflict is a natural part of human interaction and that it can
have both positive and negative outcomes. It is important for us to learn ways in order to avoid conflicts
on our day to day basis because it may consume our time to be more productive each day. I learned that
while conflicts can be disruptive and uncomfortable, they can also provide an opportunity for growth and
learning. The speaker also highlighted the importance of addressing conflicts early on, before they
escalate and become more difficult to manage. I remembered before I used to always argue for nothing
just to prove that I am right over them and I ended up not being in good terms with those person that I
argue with and I just realize that if I continue this habit of mine I will eventually lose people. It is
important to control myself in every situation. Conflict management is significant because conflicts are
inevitable in all human relationships, including personal, professional, and social. Conflicts arise when
individuals have different opinions, goals, interests, and values. The way conflicts are handled can have a
significant impact on the outcome of the situation and the relationships between the parties involved. In
this paper, I will discuss the significance of conflict management in different areas of life since I want to
relate it in life. In personal relationships, conflict management is significant because it can help prevent
conflicts from escalating and damaging the relationship. Conflicts in personal relationships can arise due
to differences in communication styles, expectations, or values. Effective conflict management strategies
such as active listening, empathy, and compromise can help resolve conflicts and promote positive
outcomes. Moreover, effective conflict management can strengthen personal relationships by promoting
better communication and mutual understanding. In the workplace, conflict management is significant
because it can prevent conflicts from negatively impacting productivity, employee morale, and
organizational culture. Conflicts in the workplace can arise due to differences in work styles,
personalities, and goals. Effective conflict management strategies such as mediation, negotiation, and
collaboration can help resolve conflicts and promote a positive work environment. Moreover, effective
conflict management can lead to increased job satisfaction, better decision-making, and improved
teamwork. In social relationships, conflict management is significant because it can help prevent conflicts
from negatively impacting social cohesion and community relationships. Conflicts in social relationships
can arise due to differences in cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and values. Effective conflict management
strategies such as education, mediation, and dialogue can help resolve conflicts and promote social
cohesion. Moreover, effective conflict management can lead to increased social trust, mutual respect, and
cultural understanding. Conflict management is significant in all areas of life because conflicts are
inevitable in all human relationships. Effective conflict management strategies can prevent conflicts from
escalating and damaging relationships, promote positive outcomes, and strengthen relationships. Whether
in personal relationships, the workplace, or social relationships, conflict management is essential for
maintaining healthy and positive relationships.

Another impactful aspect of the talk is the important aspect of peacemaking is the involvement of all
parties affected by the conflict. Peacemaking is most effective when it involves open communication and
active participation from all parties involved. It is important to recognize that peacemaking is a long-term
process, and it may take time to build trust and establish effective solutions. I also learned that even
though the speakers provide such instructions and knowledge about how to resolve conflict if we don’t
apply it in our lives its useless. We need to bear in our minds the importance to avoid being defensive,
blame game, listen attentively, control our emotions, make acceptable agreements, avoid badmouthing,
don’t take things too personal I remembered I was once told to be professional in all the things I do if I
want to avoid conflicts, pay attention, prioritize resolving the conflict than being always right, then also
the most important thing is to know when also to forgive and apologize

Moving forward, I plan to use the strategies and insights that I gained from the talk o approach conflicts
in a more constructive and proactive way. I want to be more mindful of my communication style and
focus on active listening and empathy. I also plan to work on addressing conflicts early on, before they
have a chance to escalate and cause further damage.

In conclusion, in resolving conflict and peacemaking require a set of skills and strategies that promote
effective communication, empathy, and respect and by acknowledging and addressing the root. Attending
the talk was a transformative experience that taught me new ways to approach conflicts in a more
constructive and positive way. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from such an insightful speaker
and look forward to implementing what I learned in my own life.
