• The part should be cleared of all dust, loose rust, and surface
contamination.
• Based on the part geometry and size rust can be remove by
soaking in rust remover,if the part geometry and size is big
then mechanical action is require to remove the rust.
• Apply cleaner/neutralizer.
• After drying, apply high performance antirust coating and let
it cure.
• After curing, wrap the part with high performance Ultra
Violet (UV) antirust blue film and seal it with tape.

Case History:
Thames Barrier Crane Preservation
PROBLEM
Pelligrini UK Ltd was contracted by the UK Environment
Agency to build seven new cranes to replace the existing
cranes on the Thames Barrier. One crane was delivered in
May/June 2011, with the remaining six delivered in early
2012. These cranes were left at the Thames Barrier un-
til 2013. The UK Environment Agency wanted the cranes
protected from corrosion while being stored outside at the
Thames Barrier prior to their instalation in 2013.

APPLICATION
VpCI®-132 foam pads were placed throughout the cranes.
The cranes were then wrapped with VpCI®-126 HP UV Shrink
Film and the film was shrunk to the crane using a butane
powered heat shrink gun.

CONCLUSION
Cortec’s solution has resulted in the low cost storage of these
high value assets for a period of up to two years.

Case History:
CVR(T) Scimitar Preservation
PROBLEM
The owner wanted to be able to store the CVR(T) Scimitar
outside, while at the same time protecting it from corrosion.

APPLICATION
The coolant system was treated with M640L, the oil system
was treated with VpCI®-322, and the fuel system with VpCI®-
705. The engine was then run for 15 minutes; this ensured
all the internals of the engine were protected from corro-
sion during the storage period. VpCI®-132 Foam Pads were
then placed at various areas on the outside of the vehicle
and VpCI®-101 Emitters placed in the electronic boxes. The
equipment was then wrapped using VpCI®-126 HP UV Shrink
Film and shrunk to the vehicle using a butane powered heat
shrink gun.

CONCLUSION
Cortec’s solution has resulted in the low cost storage of this
highly valued asset for a period of up to three years.

VpCI®-422
VpCI®-423 Gel
MilCorr® VpCI® Shrink Film

PROBLEM
The customer has two stator blades, two axial roller bearings, and
one annuls wheel carrier that had been stored outdoors for several
years without proper corrosion protection. The client required a
long-term, ready-to-use cleaning and preservation solution for the
critical spares to withstand the harsh outdoor storage conditions.

APPLICATION
The items were cleared of all dust, loose rust, and surface contami-
nation using pressurized air. Pieces were immersed in VpCI®-422
and left to soak until the rust had completely disappeared. Areas
not covered by VpCI®-422 in the dipping tank, had VpCI®-423 Gel
brush-applied to exposed surfaces. The rust removal process was
followed by power washing with VpCI®-418 L diluted at 20% with
DATE water. The items were allowed to completely air dry and then
February 2015 coated with VpCI®-368 and left to cure for 24 hours. To conclude
the application, all items were wrapped for storage with MilCorr®
CUSTOMER VpCI® Shrink Film.

DATE PROBLEM
May 2010 The Shuweihat Power and Desalination plant had a large in-
ventory of equipment in storage in need of corrosion protec-
CUSTOMER tion. The warehouse is exposed to the harsh sea environment
SCIPCO and the equipment was rusting. The customer required protec-
Shuweihat CMS International Power Company tion for their expensive equipment, the main items being tur-
bine rotor shafts, spare boiler tubes, expansion joints, motors,
DISTRIBUTOR valves, bearings, and electrical equipment.
The Kanoo Group - UAE
APPLICATION
LOCATION First, large metal expansion joints were cleaned using VpCI®-
Abu Dhabi (Ruwais) - UAE 422. VpCI®-337 was then sprayed on the surfaces and VpCI®-
132 foam pads were placed down before the joints were
PRODUCTS wrapped using Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. Valves, actuators,
MilCorr® VpCI® Shrink Film shafts, and bearings were first cleaned using VpCI®-414. Post
Electricorr® VpCI®-238 cleaning, the equipment was sprayed with VpCI®-337 and
VpCI®-105 Emitter wrapped in Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film. Electrical panels and
VpCI®-126 Blue other electronic items were cleaned and protected with Elec-
VpCI®-309 tricorr® VpCI®-238, after which VpCI®-105 Emitters were in-
VpCI®-337 stalled in them, and complete assemblies were wrapped with
VpCI®-414 VpCI®-126 Blue. Boiler tubes were fogged with VpCI®-309, the
VpCI®-422 tube ends were sealed with Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film and
placed in boxes that were also shrink wrapped with Milcorr®
VpCI® Shrink Film. Prior to preservation, the customer had
to replace tarpaulin covers every six months due to damage
caused by extreme heat and humidity. The covers have not
needed to be replaced in three years since being covered with
Milcorr® VpCI® Shrink Film.
