Good morning everyone, my name is pedro portuguez and my partner is karl.

Today we are going to talk about the Sustainable Development Goals. Specifically
we are going to talk about the fourteenth goal that talks about the care of
underwater life. First of all we are going to explain what the Sustainable
Development Goals are.

On September 25, 2015, world leaders adopted a set of global goals to eradicate
poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new
sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved
over the next 15 years. To achieve these goals, we all need to do our part:
governments, the private sector, civil society and all people.

What is sustainable development goal 14: underwater life?

SDG 14 seeks to conserve and use the oceans, seas and marine resources
sustainably. To this end, it seeks to prevent and reduce marine pollution of all
kinds, minimize and address the effects of ocean acidification and regulate
fisheries exploitation, among other objectives.

Why is underwater life important?

The oceans provide critical natural resources such as food, medicines, biofuels
and other products. They contribute to molecular decomposition and the removal of
waste and pollution, and their coastal ecosystems act as buffers to reduce storm
damage. Maintaining the health of the oceans helps in efforts to adapt to climate
change and mitigate its effects.

Actions to conserve marine life:

1. Reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption
You have to be aware of energy consumption at home and work and try to
reduce it.

2. Make safe and sustainable fish purchases

When you're shopping or dining out, help reduce the demand for
overexploited species by choosing healthy, sustainable products.

3. Use less plastic products

we can reuse water bottles, store food in non-disposable containers, use
cloth bags to transport our purchases.
4. Help take care of the beaches
If you like diving, surfing, or relaxing on the beach, we will try to leave the
place clean once we leave the beach.

5. Do not buy products that take advantage of marine life

Avoid buying items such as coral jewelry, shell hair accessories, and shark
products.

6. Support organizations working to protect the sea

Find a national organization and consider financial or volunteer support for
practical or promotional work.

7. Influence change in your community about caring for marine life.

Be part of the change and talk to your neighbors about the importance and
care of the marine environment.
