Setting the $EZP_USER_HOME environment variable should rectify the problem.
a. Choose the Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Environment
Variables menu item.
b. Set EZP_USER_HOME as a System Variable.
2. Verify that the lpr.exe is available on Windows. The Extended Print tool uses lpr.exe to
spool to a printer.

Installing the Windows LPR Port Monitor
Note
The files lprhelp.dll, lprmon.dll, and lprmonui.dll are also required.
3. If you are running the TCP/IP printing service, configure your Windows system to use
the LPR port. For information on enabling the LPR port, access Microsoft’s online
documentation by choosing the Start > Help and Support menu item, choose either the
Microsoft Windows website or the Microsoft TechNet website, enter LPR in the search
field, and then choose the Add an LPR port task from the search results.
Note
The TCP/IP printing service must be running for the LPR command to work on
Windows systems. If it is not running, your file does not print, and this message
appears: “Error: print server unreachable or specified printer does not exist.”

Basic Features of Extended Print
How Extended Print Imports Printers from the .csv Configuration File
• Printer Name
• Printer Location
• Server Name
• Color Support
• Duplex Support
• Number of Trays
• Papers Supported
On Linux, any printers defined on the machine are imported into the existing Printers list using
the lpstat command. Before invoking Extended Print, the path to the command, lpstat, must be
defined in the $PATH environment variable. The Extended Print tool retrieves the Printer Name
property.
In the Extended Print tool, each printer has a defined set of properties that are used for better
understanding of the printer. The tool uses these properties when spooling a job to the printer.
Table 2-1 illustrates the printer properties order as it should appear in the .csv file.

Support
The Extended Print tool employs the following rules when parsing the fields in the .csv printer
configuration file:
• Fields that contain a special character (comma, new line) must be enclosed in double
quotes.
Note - Viewing PDF files within a web browser causes some links not to function. Use HTML for full navigation.
Basic Features of Extended Print
How Extended Print Imports Printers from the .csv Configuration File
• Embedding double quotes inside a field is not permitted. For example: Screen Name =
“ThirdFloor,“Company”” is not supported.
• In the case where multiple papers are supported, paper names should be separated by a
comma and enclosed in quotes (for example: “A4, A3”).
• In the case where printer properties and fields (columns) use a value of Boolean, only
TRUE and FALSE are accepted. The following printer categories use TRUE/FALSE:
o Color Support
o Duplex Support
o Manual feed Support
o HPGL2 Support
By default, the first record (row) of the .csv printer configuration file is understood as the header
and ignored.
Note
The Server Name field must be defined. If the server is unknown, use the IP address.
Figure 2-7 illustrates a .csv file in a text editor, where columns are separated by commas and
rows are separated by new lines.
Note
The sample .csv file is shown with lines word wrapped.

How Extended Print Imports Printers from the Printer Configuration File
Note
The import function cannot validate that the configurations you are importing are valid for
this system. For example, if you import a definition for a printer name “hp50099” (see
Table 2-2 on page 28) on your system, you must have a working system printer definition with
that name.
Printing a Design
Using the Print action, you can select a printer, file format, and configuration options to spool a
print job. The Extended Print tool spools files to a printer using the lpr command (lp on Linux).

A key argument for these functions is cmd_line_options. This argument is composed of several
possible switches and values for each switch:
-action [export|print]
-format [PDF|PS2|PS3|HPGL2]
-output filepath
-printer printername (If "-action print" is given)
-nodialog (to not to show exprint dialog)
-config <path-to-basic-config-file>
$exprint_send_all_windows_to_exp("cmd_line_options");
Use these functions to export or print with the Extended Print tool. If you use the print
functionality, then the target printer name must already be configured in the Extended Print
configuration window as is the case for printing directly from the Extended Print window.

Advanced Features of Extended Print
Printer Administration for Multiple Users
defaultEzPrintConfig.xml
By default, the Extended Print tool stores all of the dialog box settings in a configuration file
named defaultEzPrintConfig.xml (the basic configuration file). You can load or save the basic
configuration file in the Extended Print dialog box. For more information, see “Multiple Users
Sharing the Same Basic Configuration File” on page 43.
The defaultEzPrintConfig.xml file also stores paths to printer and paper configuration files.
defaultPrintersConfig.xml
The printer configuration file stores a list of printers defined by the user. You can load or edit
the printer configuration file in the Extended Print dialog box. For more information, see
“Multiple Users Sharing the Same Printer Configuration File” on page 45.
defaultSupportedPapersConfig.xml
The paper configuration file stores a list of defined paper types and sizes. You can load a new
paper configuration file in the Extended Print dialog box. For more information, see “Multiple
Users Sharing the Same Paper Configuration File” on page 47.
You can also edit the paper configuration file with any XML editor or text editor.
dcml.dtd
The Extended Print tool uses the dcml.dtd file internally to check the syntax and grammar of
configuration files.
index.cfg
This file stores the path to the last used basic configuration file.
Note - Viewing PDF files within a web browser causes some links not to function. Use HTML for full navigation.
Advanced Features of Extended Print
Custom Configuration Files
Note
Changes made to the default configuration files apply when the user next invokes the
Extended Print tool. Modifying these files typically requires System Administrator access.
Caution
By default, end-users can create their own configuration files for use with the Extended
Print tool. To limit end-users to use only the shared configuration file, you should inform
them of this policy.
Note - Viewing PDF files within a web browser causes some links not to function. Use HTML for full navigation.
Advanced Features of Extended Print
Multiple Users Sharing the Same Basic Configuration File
Prerequisites
• The System Administrator created a new environment variable (for example,
$EZPRINT_CONFIG) and set it to a folder (directory) where the Basic configuration
file (for example, defaultEzPrintConfig.xml) is to be located (for example, C:/tmp/test).
• The System Administrator copied the $MGC_HOME/pkgs/ezprint_base/config/-
defaultEzPrintConfig.xml file and dcml.dtd files to the new shared folder (in this
example, C:/tmp/test).
Procedure
1. Invoke the design application (for example, the FabLink tool).
2. Open a design.
3. Invoke the Extended Print tool (for example, choose the File > Printing > Extended
Print or File > Extended Print menu item).
