Wait, you’re not a mermaid.

Not gonna lie, 100% believed Shakespeare was talking about mermaid Arial for
the majority of my reading. I don’t know if I’m just not paying attention to the words or if I
actually don't know how to read and I’ve just memorized a lot of words throughout my
academic career. Weirdly enough, Arial being a girl and also a mermaid didn’t change
that much of the logistics of the play in my brain. Don’t ask me how. The Tempest
seems to be so chaotic which is fun and also very confusing. What’s also confusing, is
that Maranda falls in ~love~ with the FIRST man she sees. Smh. I was about to go off
about how that's ~so~ unrealistic but then I remembered how many awesome girls I
know that are
gorgeous-inside-and-out-and-deserve-the-world-the-moon-and-all-the-stars-etc that just
get with the first dude that shoots their shot. This wouldn’t be a problem if those first
dudes weren’t insecure-egotistical-manchilds seeking to control a promising young
woman. Scarcity mentality frustrates me to no end because a lot of my friends wouldn’t
have crappy boyfriends if they didn’t settle for the FIRST guy that confirmed that, yes,
they were very pretty. *screams* ~Anyways~ Prospero is crazy frfr but the good kind of
crazy I guess. I liked his overall scheming vindictive persona he had going on and that
he was super protective over Maranda. Prospero being mean to Caliban and reminding
him why he was being treated harshly felt somewhat like justice…in the sense that
Caliban was doomed to subservient powerlessness because he wrongly sought to
violently display having power over someone. I don't know what the cloak thing was
about later on in the play, tho. Have no idea what was going on there. Like was it a
cloak of invisibility? Did two dudes know they were hiding together? Like I don’t even
know how that would work space wise and why did the other dude just immediately
decide they were a god…out of all the possible conclusions? The wine part made since
tho.
