[ K113 Issue No. 3 9 a ng ——— _— ~_ -_ Combined Testing of the Aircraft Pitot and Static Systems CAUTION: Observe all safety precautions detailed in the Aircraft Mainten- ance Manual, It is possible to combine the tests detailed in paragraphs 3.4 and 3.5. Any combination of altitude and airspeed can be established within the programmed set limits. Example The required altitude is S000ft and the required airspeed is 350 knots corresponding to 843mbar abs and 243mbar diff, When altitude is increased from QFE (zero ft) to the required altitude, the airspeed will also increase depending on the QFE. The final airspeed will not be the required airspeed. To increase airspeed the Pt channel must be pressurized. Procedure 1. Remove the pitot and static blanking caps and switch ON. 2. Fully open the GROUND VENT valve. 2 Press Ps and ensure that the Ps key illuminates, 4 Connect the Pitot-Static Tester to the Aircraft Pitot System. 5. If necessary, select VACUUM and ensure the VACUUM key illuminates. 6. Close the GROUND VENT valve. 7. Press the UNITS key and, using this key, step through the selection to the required units. 8 If necessary, press the SET LIMITS key to change the limits, see 3.8. 9. Slowly operate the hand-pump to an altitude of SO00f. 10. Press the Pt key and ensure that the Pt key illuminates. 11. Check the PRESSURE/VACUUM selection. If the VACUUM LED is illuminated, fully open the GROUND VENT and press the PRES- SURE/VACUUM key to select PRESSURE. Ensure the PRESSURE LED illuminates. 12. (Jose the GROUND VENT valve. Slowly operate the hand-pump to an airspeed of 350 knots. K113 Issue No. 3 10 SN _ +S SS OS SS = L After combined testing, open the GROUND VENT to take each outlet to ground pressure at the required rate. When at ground pressure, fully open the GROUND VENT. NOTES If higher values of altitude are required it is possible that the applied Pressures could be near the maximum operating values of the airspeed sensors. The Qc (airspeed) value must first be reduced before continuing to increase the Ps pressure. Selecting P; and applying vacuum reduces the differential Q. value. Reduce airspeed 10 a low value (e.g., 50 knots or equivalent) then the P, channel can be re-selected to further increase the altitude value. When changing between Pitot and Static the hand-pump will be automatically set to PRESSURE/VACUUM. If the unit is powered-up while connected to the aircraft, it is possible to have an incorrect PRESSURE/VACUUM selection. This results in the selected outlet venting to ground through the hand-pump. ‘The rate limits controlling the speed of venting, can be set to prevent damage to the aircraft systems. ‘Therefore limits must be checked at power-up before selecting outlet and changed if necessary. K113 Issue No. 3 11 37 Leak Testing Apply pressure to the system under test as detailed in Testing the Aircraft Static or Pitot system. Before starting the leak test, check that the tester is operating within range of the set limits. During the leak test the set limits are enabled. If a limit is exceeded, press END TEST. Change the applied Pressure in the system under test, to within the set limits, and start the leak test again, NOTE: 1 If, during a test, a high leak rate occurs that exceeds the rate limit the protection valve operates. The test continues, but the result will include the influence of the protection valve. NOTE; 2 The calculated Qc rate includes all values including any small negative values not yet removed by MIN SPEED. Press SET LIMITS key to check the time settings, to change settings, see 3.8. Press LEAK TEST and ensure that the LEAK TEST key LED pulses. Check that the displays show the time remaining until the end of the test. During the testing the display can be switched between TIME and PRESSURE by pressing the TIME/PRESSURE key. When the test is complete, the display shows the final Leak Rate and the LEAK TEST key LED illuminates. If PRESSURE is then selected, the display shows the current reading with the END’ TEST key LED illuminated. Switching to LEAK TEST changes the display to the final Leak Rate, with the LEAK TEST key LED illuminated, Press END TEST. Ensure that the END TEST and LEAK TEST LED are both extinguished. NOTE: Pressing RESET or END TEST will abort the test if in progress, clear leak rate values from completed tests and return the unit to pressure measurement mode. If further testing is required, apply another pressure to the system under test and repeat the steps above. K113 Issue No. 3 12 S—- = = 3.8 Set Limits 1 Limits are: MAX ALT, MIN ALT, MAX ROC, MAX SPEED, MAX RATE SPEED, SETTLE TIME AND TEST TIME. ‘The limits sect at manufacture are as follows: MAX ALT 500007 MIN ALT -2000ft MAX ROC 6000ft/min MAX SPEED 500 knots MAX RATE SPEED 600 knots/min SETTLE TIME 10 seconds TEST TIME 1 minute NOTE: MIN SPEED is fixed at approximately -8 knots thus preventing any significant negative airspeeds and allowing the current airspeed to recover to zero. Limits may be set in two ways, temporary or permanent. The tempor- ary settings are in force until changed in set limits or removal of the power supply. Permanent settings are made during the power-up/set limits routine and remain in force until changed. To make a temporary set limits change, press SET LIMITS key during normal operation. Each press of SET LIMITS steps on to the next limit. Pressing SET LIMITS allows each limit to be viewed and with the use of the and t keys changed. ‘The digit 10 be changed flashes, use the t to change the value, 0 to 9 or for the most significant digit of MIN ALT -9 to -0 to +0 to +9. Pressing the -> changes to the next digit, which flashes, and stores the previous digit at the last selected value. To store a new limit value press the ZERO QFE/STORE key and when all:the required limit changes have been made press RESET to exit the SET LIMIT mode. To make a permanent limit change, press and hold the SET LIMITS key during the power-up routine. To change limits, store limits and exit from the mode the procedure is the’ same as the temporary limit change.
