1 INTRODUCTION

The Jebel Ali Terminal (JAT) of Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (EMARAT) for storage and
distribution of petroleum products is located at Petrochemical Zone of Plot No. EW103 of Jebel Ali
Free Zone (JAFZA).

Automotive fuels such as Gas Oil and Unleaded Gasoline and LPG are stored and handled at JAT,
for distributing petroleum products to the filling stations in the emirate of Dubai and Northern Emirates
from Jebel Ali Terminal (JAT) along with LPG cylinder filling and bulk supplies. The Terminal has been
in service for more than twenty years with refurbishment and add-on development over the years.

As a part of JAT2020 project an Adequacy Check for Fire Fighting Facility of JAT was carried out. In
line with EMARAT management directive, EMARAT HSE guidelines and considering future
developments, an improvement of the firefighting pumping system is initiated.

The objective of this project is to upgrade the firefighting system at Jebel Ali terminal by installing a
new firewater pump.

Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (EMARAT), the CLIENT, has appointed Bilfinger Tebodin
Middle East (BTME) the CONSULTANT, to provide consultancy services for the upgrade of firewater
pumping system at Jebel Ali Terminal, Dubai.

1.1 Purpose of the Document

The purpose of the document is to summarize the electrical loads for the new additional diesel driven
pump envisaged in this project scope.

5 DESIGN CRITERIA

Relevant definition, formulas, basis and assumptions which are used to form the design criteria for
this document are as follows:

5.1 Definitions

Absorbed Loads Loads that are absorbed by the driven equipment or the maximum
power taken during a given period of time as below:

 For pumps, shaft load on duty point

 For instrumentation, computers, communication, air conditioning,
the required load during full operation of plant.

 For lighting during dark hours

Title: ELECTRICAL LOAD LIST

Office: Dubai Order: AET00878-00 Document No. 4100001 Rev 1 Sheet 5 of: 8
CONTRACT NO. CNT/ENP/112310 : :
Consumed Load The ratio of the absorbed load to the efficiency at load factor. Consumed
load may be categorized as Continuous, Intermittent or Standby.

Continuous Loads All loads that may be required continuously for normal operation
or which may be reasonably expected to occur simultaneously.

Intermittent Loads All process and utility loads required for normal operation but neither
operating continuously nor simultaneously e.g. monorail hoists will
operate intermittently, coming on when they are required to lift
equipment.

Standby Loads All loads required during maintenance, change-over from duty to
standby or during abnormal circumstances e.g. for a 2x100% pump
installed, pump ‘A’ will run continuously while pump ‘B’ will be on
standby

5.2 Basis and Assumptions

Electrical load list has been prepared based on the following basis and assumptions:

 Electrical Loads are divided into following three classes according to use:

a) Continuous Load – Which draws power at continuous rate

b) Intermittent Load – Which draws power as per duty cycle for short duration

c) Stand-by Load – which is connected with power supply and ready to act as and when
required.

 Electrical load list is prepared based on various Electrical and Process loads.

 Load factor 1 for power feeders, Power factor(0.8) & Efficiency(0.85) considered for load
calculation are preliminary, to be updated the same based on final vendor data.

 Total Plant Load = (100% of Continuous load) + (30% of Total Intermittent load or Largest
Intermittent load whichever is higher) + (10% of Total Standby load or Largest Standby load
whichever is higher)

 All equipment tag numbers shown in this document is preliminary, it shall be updated in the next
revision in consult wi.

 All equipment ratings shown in this document are preliminary, to be updated the same based on
final vendor data.

 Cable length is based on the cable routing layout.

 Power and control cables shall be of annealed stranded copper conductors, XLPE insulated,
steel wire armoured, and overall PVC sheathed. Lead sheath cables or equivalent eco-friendly
sheathing shall be used for outdoor cables.

8 PRINCIPLE FOLLOWED FOR THE LV CABLE SIZING CALCULATION

 Minimum required current rating Iflc / TDF

Where,
Iflc = Full Load current
TDF = Total De-rating factor for the cables laid in ground

 Voltage Drop at Steady State

Voltage drop = [Iflc x (mV/A/m) x L / (n x 1000)]

% Voltage drop = Voltage drop X 100/Operating Voltage

mV/A/m = Voltage drop factor per Amp per meter (mV)

9 DERATING FACTORS

De-rating factors considered for cables laid in directly ground:

 De-rating factors for ground temperature (42 °C) = 0.82

(Table 2 of Ducab cable catalogue, 40°C has been considered )

 De-rating factors for variation in thermal resistivity of soil (2.5°C m/W) = 0.75
(Table 3 of Ducab cable catalogue)

 De-rating factors for depth of laying (0.8 Mtr) = 0.96

(Table 4 of Ducab Cable catalogue)

 De-rating factors for grouping ( 4no. of circuit at 0.15m spacing) = 0.74

(Table 6 of Ducab Cable catalogue)

Total De-rating factor (T.D.F.) for Underground installation (0.82x0.75x0.96x0.74) = 0.44

De-rating factors considered for cables laid in Air / Metallic cable trays:

 De-rating factors for air temperature (50°C) = 0.82

(Table 11 of Ducab cable catalogue)

 Grouping factor for 4 touching circuits on a metal tray = 0.77
(Table 12 of Ducab cable catalogue)

Total De-rating factor (T.D.F.) for cable tray installation (0.82 x 0.77) = 0.63

10 CONCLUSION

The selected cables are suitable to carry the full load current within temperature limits and acceptable
voltage drops at operating conditions.

RATING FACTORS
Where the conditions of installation differ from those defined in the current rating tables, the following rating factors may be used
for cables size selection.

CABLES LAID DIRECTLY IN GROUND

Ratings for cables installed directly in the ground are based on values of soil temperature and soil thermal resistivity which are
generally representative of conditions in the United Kingdom. Rating factors to take account of variation in ground temperatures
are given in Table 2. Where conditions of operation can be fairly accurately estimated and knowledge of the soil along the route is
available, it is possible to determine the ratings more precisely by the use of the soil thermal resistivity factors, grouping factors, and
factors for the depths of laying given in Tables 3 to 6. These factors are more fully tabulated in ERA Report 69 - 30 Part II Tables
61 - 71.

In ERA Report 69-30 Part III, the types of load are classified under three headings, viz:

Type A Cables carrying a constant load throughout the year.

Type B Cables carrying varying loads, maximum in summer period.
Type C Cables carrying varying loads, maximum in winter period.

With knowledge of the type of load to be imposed on the cable it is then possible to determine the soil thermal resistivity along the
cable route in accordance with recommendations in ERA Report 69-30.

* This spacing will not be possible for some of the larger diameter cables.

+ For high current carrying cables (i.e. large size) it is advisable to allow spacing between circuits. Alternatively the most
appropriate group rating factor must be applied when determining the cable size and required number of cables in parallel.

Ratings for cables installed in single way ducts, underground, have been based on values of soil temperature and soil thermal
resistivity which are generally representative of conditions in the United Kingdom. Rating factors to take account of variations in
ground temperatures are given in Table 3. Where conditions of operation can be fairly accurately estimated, and knowledge of the
soil along the route is available, it is possible to determine the ratings more precisely by the use of estimated maximum ground
temperature, the soil thermal resistivity factors, grouping factors, and factors for the depths of laying given in Tables 8 to 11.

Rating factors for ground temperature

Note: Same as for direct in ground, refer to Table 2.
