In this video we are going to understand and appreciate the local


history of DAVAO CITY!

Davao City, it is a highly urbanized city located in the island of Mindanao in the southern part of
the Philippines. It is also the largest city in the country in terms of land area and one of the most
populous, with a population of over 1.6 million as of the 2020 census.

In terms of tourism, Davao City is not left behind as it has numerous amazing tourist spots, we
can explore.

- First is the Mount Apo - The highest mountain in the Philippines,


- Next is Eden Nature Park and Resort - A popular destination for nature lovers, offering a
wide range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, and zip-lining.
- Another one is Samal Island - A tropical paradise with pristine beaches, crystal-clear
waters, and excellent diving spots.
- Next is Davao Crocodile Park - A wildlife park featuring various species of crocodiles, as
well as other animals like snakes, birds, monkeys, and many more
- Last on our list but not the least is People's Park - A popular public park in the city
center, featuring a large fountain, a playground, and various artworks.

Davao City is home to a diverse range of cultures, reflecting the city's history and the different
ethnic groups that have settled in the area.

- Davao City is home to various indigenous tribes, including the Bagobo, Mandaya, and
Manobo. These tribes have their unique languages, customs, and traditions that have
been passed down for generations.
- Davao City celebrates several festivals throughout the year, including the Kadayawan
Festival, which honors the city's indigenous communities and their harvests. Other
festivals include the Araw ng Dabaw, which celebrates the city's foundation, and the
Chinese New Year.
- Davao City is known for its diverse culinary scene, which reflects its multicultural
population. Some popular local dishes include kinilaw, a raw fish salad, and durian, a
fruit that is famous for its distinct smell and flavor.

Davao City was led by the Duterte family for many years, starting with Rodrigo Duterte's first
term as mayor in 1988 and and then with his daughter, the now-Vice president Sara Duterte-
Carpio and now the current mayor Sebastian Duterte, Rodrigo’s youngest child. During this time,
the city underwent significant changes and development, particularly in terms of peace and
order, infrastructure, and social services.
Under Rodrigo Duterte's leadership, Davao City was known for its tough stance on crime, the
city was given a low crime rate and was also hailed as one of the safest cities in Asia.

Sara Duterte-Carpio continued her father's legacy by prioritizing the city's development and
implementing various projects, including the Davao City Coastal Road Project, which aims to
improve the city's transportation and tourism.

Overall, the Duterte family's leadership in Davao City brought significant changes and
development to the city.
