In the 13th of September 1950, the National Mental Health Association (NMHA) was created
through a merger of several organizations, including the National Committee for Mental
Hygiene, the National Mental Health Foundation, and the Psychiatric Foundation.
This consolidated entity continued the important work of advocating for mental health
awareness, education, and support for individuals and communities across the United States. The
NMHA eventually evolved into what is now known as Mental Health America (MHA), which
remains a prominent mental health advocacy organization.
