What’s Inside of You? Heintze


Directions: You have just read Enrique Aviles’ poem “On the Question of Race”. Create 6 lists of things that you have
inside of you. We will use these lists to create our own personal poems in class.
List 1- Food: What are the foods that are inside of you? It could be your favorite meals, restaurants names, etc…

1-The chicken broccoli combo and chicken wings with French fries that’s from a Chinese restaurant.

2-The buttermilk crispy chicken sandwhich from McDonald’s.


3-A sandwhich that my mom makes from time to time.
List 2- Smells: What are the smells that are inside of you? Think of smells that bring back memories. For example, when I
smell sauce, it brings back memories of my mother.

List 3- Voices/Sounds: What are the voices that are inside of you? Try to think of words or sounds that we have heard and
that are always with us. It might be the words of a song or something your mother always said to you, etc…

List 4- Places: What are the places you have inside of you? The country, state, city, neighborhood you are from; the
school you attend, church, a grocery store, any place that identifies you.

List 5- Dreams: What dreams do you have inside of you? This could be about real dreams or a goal you have for your life.
1-To graduate from high school.
2-To go to college.
3-To finish college.
List 6- A Memory: What is a favorite memory that you have inside of you?
The time I went to a blackbear concert.
