Baby Sea Otter Crochet Pattern

Notes
● The pictures and colors in this pattern are based off of a brown
and white otter, but you may use whatever variation of colors
you’d like.
● The otter in the cover photo is made with “Alize Softy Plus” yarn
and a 4.5 mm hook. The otter shown in this pattern’s pictures is
made with “Alize Softy Mega” yarn and a 5 mm hook.
● This pattern is written in US terminology
● This pattern is worked in continuous spiral rounds, so there’s no
need to sl st/ ch 1 at the end of each round.
● You may sell the plushie that you create using this pattern as long
as you credit me as the pattern creator, but please do not sell,
copy, steal or distribute the pattern itself.

Abbreviations
● R: round/row
● Mr: magic ring
● Sc: single crochet
● Inc: increase
● Dec: invisible decrease
● St: stitch
● Sl st: slip stitch
● Ch: chain
● FO: fasten off
● Tc: triple crochet
● (#): st count at the end of each row
● (___) x_: repeat the steps in the parentheses the given

Materials
● Chosen yarn in the colors brown, white, and your desired color for
the accessory
● Crochet hook corresponding to your chosen yarn size
● Brown acrylic yarn or felt & glue to create a nose
● Polyester stuffing
● Darning needle for sewing pieces together
● Safety eyes
● Stitch marker
● Scissors

Head
*begin in the color brown

*change to the color white

head.

Body
*in the color brown:

Ears (make 2)
*in the color brown:
● R1: 4 sc in mr (4)
*FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Pull the magic ring
closed.
● Sew an ear to each side of the head, between R5
& R7.

Snout
*in the color white:
● R1: 6 sc in mr (6)
● R2: sc, inc, 2 sc, inc, sc (8)
*FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
● Sew between the otter’s eyes, between R7 &
R9.
● Embroider a nose/mouth or cut and glue one
using felt.

Belly
*in the color white:
● R1: 8 sc in mr (8)
● R2: inc x8 (16)
*FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
● Sew the belly between R4 & R8 of the otter’s
body (the body’s rows are counted from the
bottom up).

Arms (make 2)
*in the color brown:
● R1: 7 sc in mr (7)
● R2: sc x7 (7)
● R3: sc x7 (7)
● R4: sc x7 (7)
*FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff lightly.
● Sew an arm to each side of the otter’s body,
between R8 & R10. The arms should be about 4
st apart from each other.

Legs (make 2)
*in the color brown:
● R1: 5 sc in mr (5)
● R2: inc x5 (10)
● R3; sc x10 (10)
*FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
● Sew the legs directly beneath the arms on each side of the
otter’s body between R4 & R7, stuffing them as you go.

Tail
*in the color brown:
● R1: 7 sc in mr (7)
● R2: sc x7 (7)
● R3: sc x7 (7)
● R4: sc x7 (7)
● R5: sc x7 (7)
*FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Lightly stuff
the tail.
● Sew onto R1 of the otter’s body.

Ocean Accessory (choose one to sew to your otter)

Fish
*in the color blue:
● R1: 4 sc in mr (4)
● R2: Inc x4 (8)
● R3: Sc x 8 (8)
● R4: Sc x 8 (8)
● R5: Sc x 8 (8)
*insert safety eyes on each side of the fish’s
head, between R2 & R3. Add stuffing.
● R6: Dec x4 (4)
● R7: Inc x4 (8)
*FO and sew closed, leaving a long tail for sewing it to the otter.
● Bring the yarn tail out through the right end of the fish. Then go
through a st on the inner side of the otter’s right arm to attach
it. Go back into the fish and weave yarn to the left end of it, and
attach it to the left arm. Weave in the end and cut the yarn tail.

Seastar
*in the color yellow:
● R1: 5 sc in mr (5)
● R2: (IN THE SAME ST: sl st, ch 2, sl st in the
first ch, sl st back into the original st) x5 (15)
● Repeat the above steps to make another star
but make sure you leave a LONG tail for sewing.
● Line up the two stars and press them together,
then sew them together, stuffing lightly as you
go.
● Bring the yarn tail out through the right end of
the seastar. Then go through a st on the inner
side of the otter’s right arm to attach it. Go back into the
seastar and weave yarn to the left end of it, and attach it to the
left arm. Weave in the end and cut the yarn tail.

Seashell
*in the color pink:
● R1: 4 sc in mr (4)
● R2: inc x4 (8)
● R3: Sc x8 (8)
● R4: (IN THE SAME ST: sl st, tc, sl st) x8 (24)
*FO, leaving a LONG tail for sewing
● Press the seashell closed, lining up the four
ridges on each side. Sew the two sides
together, stuffing lightly as you go.
● Bring the yarn tail out through the right end
of the seashell. Then go through a st on the inner side of the
otter’s right arm to attach it. Go back into the seashell and weave
yarn to the left end of it, and attach it to the left arm. Weave in
the end and cut the yarn tail.
