Course Background
The role of the course is to provides students Information about computer application
fundamentals to succeed in the workplace. also be able to demonstrate digital literacy
through basic study of computer hardware, operating systems, networking, the Internet,
web publishing, spreadsheets and database software

Course Aims
By the end of the course, students should be able to design, develop, administer and
manage application uses in the computer that can achieve the purpose uses of applications
and results to improve teaching and learning.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Identify the common components of a desktop environment, such as icons, the
taskbar, menus, and windows.
2. Perform basic file management, such as naming, saving, deleting, moving,
renaming, and editing files.
3. Navigate, save, and move files between folders and subfolders.
4. Perform basic windows manipulation.

Course Description
This course provides students with the opportunity to practice using computer software
applications and develop mastery of advanced Microsoft-Office skills. The topics covered
include: Introduction to computer; Introduction to Windows OS; Creating folders and
files, modifying and saving files; Word processing; Spreadsheets; Databases; Introduction
to Presentations etc.

Learning Outcomes
Graduate of this course shall be:
1. Demonstrate basic understanding of computer hardware and software.
2. Apply skills and concepts for basic use of a computer.
3. Identify appropriate tool of MS office to prepare basic documents, charts,
spreadsheets and presentations.
4. Create personal, academic and business documents using MS office.
5. Create spreadsheets, charts and presentations.
6. Analyze data using charts and spread sheets.

Methodology
Lectures based on students’ handouts, practical aspects and reading assignments. There
will be class discussions, group and individual practical practices.

Evaluation
There will be attendance with 10%, continuous assignments with 10%, midterm sitting
exam 20% and practical final examination with 60%. Therefore, passing grade is 50%.

Students will practice the course through the subject lecture. The exam will be evaluated
based on depth of their theoretical and practical content.
Submit (all) assignments at the beginning of the class in which they are due. Failure to do
so will result in a mark of “0”, unless an illness/emergency can be proven with
appropriate documentation.

Attendance
All students are expected to attend all classes. Attendance will be recorded to be part of
your course work. Take care of it!
Please, note that you are responsible for compensating for time lost.

Participation
Students are strongly encouraged to participate during each class through asking and
answering questions, working their practical’s and sharing opinions.

Plagiarism
Students found plagiarizing or engaging in other forms of cheating in this course can
expect to fail the course.
