CELLULAR RESPIRATION

● Is the process of obtaining ATP or energy for cells

front the food taken.
● There are TWO TYPES of cellular respiration:
Aerobic and Anaerobic respiration
● Aerobic Respiration = Glycolysis → TCA → ETC
○ By-products: H20 & CO2
○ Maximum ATP yield: 38 ATP
● Anaerobic Respiration = Glycolysis → Lactic acid
fermentation

Electron Transport Chain

★ The Electron Acceptors: NADH and FADH2
★ NADH & FADH electron transfer to final
electron acceptor, Oxygen.
★ Proteins involved:
○ Complex I
○ Complex II
○ Complex III
○ Complex IV - reduction of o2 to
water.
○ Ubiquinone (Q)
○ Cytochrome C (Cyt C)
○ ATP Synthase
★ Generates an electrochemical gradient that
leads to chemiosmosis
★ Phosphorylation of ADP due to
electrochemical gradient that produce ATP
★ Ubiquinone - transfer to complex ii
★ Cytochrome C - transfer to complex 4
