People used to think that chemistry started before

systematic study of chemical processes. His 1887 lecture series
at the Manchester Technical School, later crystallized in his book
Davis
"A Handbook of Chemical Engineering" (1901), delineated
principles that would define the field. Although met with initial
challenges, Davis' visionary contributions laid the groundwork for
the evolution of chemical engineering into a prominent
academic and industrial discipline.
Henry Edward Armstrong was one of the main pioneers of
chemical engineering in the United Kingdom. He was
instrumental in creating a three-year course in chemical
