KPK to detain Budi Mulya soon
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | National | Wed, November 13 2013, 6:31 AM
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) expects to detain former Bank Indonesia
(BI) deputy governor Budi Mulya soon.
KPK chairman Abraham Samad said on Tuesday that the antigraft body had nearly
completed its investigation into Budi’s alleged abuse of authority in the Bank Century
bailout.
Therefore, the KPK hopes to detain Budi, the only suspect in the case so far, by the end of the
year.
Samad, however, did not know when the case would go to trial.
“I don’t know exactly when the case will go to court, but if we’re talking about detainment,
then maybe this year,” he said.
According to Samad, it would be difficult for the KPK to complete Budi’s dossier this year as
previously stated due to a lack of human resources. “We only have 60 to 70 investigators, and
with so many big graft cases suddenly, [investigators] are shifting [their focus],” he said.
The case centers around the controversial decision by BI and the government to disburse Rp

crisis in 2008.

The most unforgettable and horrifying ordeal in my life happened when I was in my early
20's.
I was painting a Dental Office with other painters and electricians were putting in lights,
when one of them caused a short in the electrical system of the building. Fire caught in the
walls and quickly spread to the carpeting in the hallways of the building. We had no phone to
call for help, but our foreman knew we were there.
We were up 8 stories, there was no emergency exit we could take, so we closed the doors to
the office we were painting, and thankfully we had running water so we spashed water on the
doors to keep them cool, hoping to slow the progress of the fire so that it wouldn't get past the
door before the Fire Department arrived. There was one window. I looked out the window
thinking that if the flames made it to where I was, I was going to try to jump to a building
about 80 feet down and off to the side a bit.
Smoke started coming into the Dental Office, we took our painting over-alls off and wet them
but with little help. Fire was starting to come under the door and that window was starting to
look mighty good.
We were as far into the inner office as we could get when I heard voices. Then we saw water
splashing under the door way. The Fire Department had arrived and in force.
We were saved a horrible death, but from that day, I have never gone back to that building.

C. the writer’s life was safe by jumping out of the building.

Child labor is still seen in many developing nations. This article will provide you with an
insight into this deeply terrible practice, and the scarring effects it can have on children and
society as a whole.
Child labor alludes to the practice of employing children full-time in industries, often under
dangerous and unhealthy conditions. The practice still prevails in developing countries,
glaring examples being countries in Africa, south-east Asia, and Latin America. Many
children across the globe lose their childhood working in hazardous conditions with
inadequate pays. It is a law in all countries that the stipulated age of employment should be
such that the child can finish his/her compulsory education. However, this law is violated and
many industries still employ children, subjecting them to work in conditions that can pose a
danger to their health.
The history of child labor can be traced back to the Industrial Revolution, when very young
children were forced to work in coal mines, factories, sweatshops, and even as domestic
servants. Even today, as per UNICEF, a whopping 150 million children all over the globe are
engaged in child labor. Child labor is widely observed in the mining, ceramics and glassware,
garment and carpet manufacturing, and fireworks industries. This form of exploitation denies
children their basic right to education which is so crucial in their growing years. To curb this
malevolent practice, we need to take a deeper look into its causes and harmful effects.

33. What makes child labor become a frightening action?

A. Children have to work at industry.
B. Industries employ with high salary.
C. Children work in a poor condition and payment.
D. Children engage in child labor for helping their parents.
E. Industries employ children to work in a safe environment.

34. Why does the child labor still exist in the developing countries?
A. There are too many populations that seek for jobs.
B. Many children do not get their right to work after school.
C. Child labor has been practiced since Industrial Revolution.
D. Child labor is paid insufficiently in the developing countries.
E. Many developing countries do not obey the law of the employment age.

35. “To curb this malevolent practice….” (paragraph 3 the last line)
The word “curb’ has the closest meaning to…
A. cut
B. stop
C. view
D. reduce
E. dismiss

Love Comes to Paradise is the second book in bestselling author Mary Ellis's New
Beginnings series. It's about fresh starts and how faith in God and His perfect plans provide
the peace and joy all long for.
Nora King believes she is a woman in love. When Elam Detweiler leaves the
ultraconservative Amish district of Harmony, Maine, and moves to Paradise, Missouri, Nora

Elam's English-leaning heart, no matter how hard she tries.
And then, unexpectedly, Lewis Miller comes from Harmony to offer Nora what every
woman needs--a lifetime of unconditional love. As Lewis attempts to claim her heart, Elam's
interest awakes. Will Nora come to her senses before Elam's thoughtless choices ruin her

However, people still argue whether distance learning give more advantage or disadvantage.
Some of them who see the benefit of distance learning will say that distance learning needs
no commuting. Of course it saves money and time that students would take. Furthermore,
distance learning can be done at any student’s convenience. Mostly of the classes of distance
learning are asynchronous. It means that students do not have to attend a lecture at a fixed
particular time and place. Students can review the assignments and do their homework during
off-hours or from home. Additionally, distance learning gives more accessibility. No one can
deny it. People with limited mobility may encounter the problem when they take traditional
class. With the online class system, the problem is absent.
Despite the many advantages, the other people will see that distance learning is costly and
needs complex technology. To attend online learning, student must have a computer with
possibly access to the internet. Admitted or not, such technology devices are not always
available for common students. Another disadvantage of distance learning is that it does not

provide immediate feedback. Unlikely traditional classroom, students have to wait for the
feedback and comment until the instructor has review the works and sent response to them.
Most of the time students will study alone. Distance learners may feel isolated or miss that
social physical interaction that comes with attending a traditional classroom

39. Which of the following is not the benefit of distance learning?

A. It saves money and time.
B. There is no problem with attendance

Flamingos are a type of wading bird in the genus Phoenicopterus, the only genus in the
family Phoenicopteridae.
Flamingos often stand on one leg, the other leg tucked beneath the body. The reason for this
behaviour is not fully understood. Recent research indicates that standing on one leg may
allow the birds to conserve more body heat, given that they spend a significant amount of
time wading in cold water. However, the behaviour also takes place in warm water. As well
as standing in the water, flamingos may stamp their webbed feet in the mud to stir up food
from the bottom.
Young flamingos hatch with greyish reddish plumage, but adults range from light pink to
bright red due to aqueous bacteria and beta-Carotene obtained from their food supply. A
well-fed, healthy flamingo is more vibrantly coloured and thus a more desirable mate; a white
or pale flamingo, however, is usually unhealthy or malnourished. Captive flamingos are a
notable exception; many turn a pale pink as they are not fed carotene at levels comparable to
the wild.
