Biographical Approach
It sees a literary work chiefly, if not

exclusively, as a reflection of its

author’s life and times or the life

and times of the characters in the

work. A historical novel is likely to

be more meaningful when either

its milieu or that of its author is

understood

Moral-Philosophical Approach
emphasizes that the larger

function of literature is to

teach morality and to probe

philosophical issues.

Literature is interpreted

within a context of the

philosophical thought of a

period or group.
Moral-Philosophical Approach
It does NOT view literature merely as

“art” isolated from all moral

implications; it recognizes that

literature can affect readers, whether

subtly or directly, and that the

message of a work -and not just the

decorous vehicle for that message -is

important.
