Brief Description of the Research

Background:
In today's education system, a pressing concern is the high rate of students facing academic struggles. When it
comes to a student's path in the area of academics, families play an essential role. A family member’s
involvement in a child's education is associated with increased academic success as well as social and
emotional growth. This is proven by Shao and Kang (2022), wherein they further revealed that a solid home
foundation gives children the emotional and psychological security they need to succeed in school. However, it
is undeniable that there are students who do not have a close relationship with their family. According to
Nguyen (2021), instability in family relationships can result in a tense and stressful home environment,
ultimately causing increased frustration and reduced motivation. Furthermore, the high occurrence of frequent,
intense, and unresolved family disputes can ultimately result in family estrangement and may significantly
harm a child's academic performance. Considering these diverse family dynamics, it is essential for our
research to explore the connection between family ties and students' performance at school. We aim to assess
whether this connection is strong or weak. Do students tend to do better when they have strong family bonds, or
do their academic results suffer when their family connections are less close? This study is significant for it has
the potential to shed light on the role of family support and connections in students' academic performance.

Research Method: Correlational Research

Respondents: Grade 12 STEM of MCPI
Objective/s of the Research:
1. To assess the level of students' familial connections or bonds.
2. To assess the academic performance level of Grade 12 STEM students.
3. To assess the existence and strength of the relationship between family ties and the academic
performance of Grade 12 STEM students.
