ELECTROSTATIC FORCE AND COULOMB’S LAW

Instruction: Solve the following problem involving electrostatic force and

coulomb’s law. Be able to show the following: Diagram, given, derivation
of formula (if needed), and solution.

1. What is the repulsive force between two pitch balls that are 8.00 cm
apart and have equal charges of – 30.0 nC?

2. Two charge sphere A and B is separated by a distance of 1.23

meters. If charge sphere A is 2 x 1017 C and charge sphere B is 2.34
x 1012 C, what is the electrostatic force between them?

3. The magnitude of an electrostatic force between two charge object

separated by a distance of 0.03 meter is 20.4 Newton. If the charge
of one of the two objects is 7.0 x 10-6 Coulombs, what is the charge
of the other object?

4. Suppose you are holding a -4.20 x 10- 4 C object repelling another -

5.30 x 10-6 C object place fix on a table. How far should you stand
from the object on the table so that the repulsive force will be 2.98 x
10-5 Newton?

5. Calculate the electric force between a 4.6 x 10 -5C charge and a -

2.76 x 10-4C charge separated by 0.0025 kilometer. Also, determine
if the force is attractive or repulsive.

Note: Write your answer on 1 whole sheet of paper/yellow pad.
