 Patients should be tested with uncorrected vision.
While patient refraction has minimal influence on
Diopsys® ffERG vision tests, testing the same
patient the same way each time is important to
track results. If the patient is tested with pupil
dilation, this can influence the results and it should
be marked in the “Comments” section.
 Lights should be left on in the testing room.
 Limit distractions to the patient.
 Do not test patient if fever or eye infection is
present.
 If a patient has a past eye injury or contact lens
issue such as dry-eye, or excessive blinking, these
may affect the patient’s ffERG response. Artificial
tears may be helpful in this type of situation.
 The patient should keep both eyes open and focus
the fellow eye (the eye not being tested) on a
stationary target, such as a door handle, image on
the wall, etc.
 Make the patient aware that quality test results will
only be achieved if he/she is sitting still and is
paying full attention as instructed.
1. Using an OCuSOFT Original Lid Scrub Pad, roll to
create a rounded edge. Ask the patient to tilt their
head back and look up at the ceiling. Cleanse the
under eye area of the right eye, close to the lash
line with 6 sweeps toward the temple. Then
thoroughly dry the area with gauze.
2. Turn the same OCuSOFT Original Lid Scrub Pad
inside out, and roll to create a rounded edge. Ask
the patient to tilt their head back and look up at the
ceiling. Cleanse the under eye area of the left eye,
close to the lash line with 6 sweeps toward the
temple. Then thoroughly dry the area with gauze.
3. Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 cleansing and drying
process for both eyes' lower lid skin.
4. Gently place Diopsys® ERG Lid Electrodes on the
lower lid skin of the right and left eye, centered
with the pupil, and as close as possible to the
eyelash line without touching the eye lashes.
5. Apply a pearl size amount of NuPrep® Gel to a clean
gauze pad.
6. Rub the gel lightly onto the skin with 4-5 small
circular motions on the center of the patient’s
forehead, just below the hairline. Gently remove all
remaining gel thoroughly with a dry part of the
gauze.
7. Place a pearl-sized amount of Ten20® Conductive
Paste onto the EEG Electrode and position on the
recently cleansed area in the center of the
forehead.
8. Connect the RED lead wire to the Lid Electrode
under the right eye and the BLACK lead wire the Lid
Electrode under the left eye with the OD and OS
labels facing outwards.
9. Adjust the lead wires so that they rest over the
patient’s ear using the slide to adjust tension and
prevent a downward pull.
10. Snap the GREEN lead wire to a Disposable EEG
Electrode. Adjust the lead wire so that it rests
behind the patient’s ear. Plug each lead wire into
the corresponding color jack of the Filter/Amplifier
Module.
11. Give the mini-Ganzfeld to the patient, and instruct
them to cover his/her right eye. Take care to inform
the patient to rest the mini-Ganzfeld dome lightly
on the cheek and above the eyebrow so that the
eye is centered in the
face of the dome.
12. Begin the Diopsys®
ffERG test.
The Use of the Diopsys® NOVA™ (ARGOS™) Vision
Testing Systems is Contraindicated for Patients
with Seizure Disorders.
