A Modern Circadian Clock in The Common Angiosperm - WT - Summaries
Abstract
Two recent studies demonstrate that the circadian clock enhances fitness through
temporal organization of plant gene expression, metabolism and physiology.
The recent availability of several plant genome sequences has made it clear that
whole genome duplication has occurred frequently during angiosperm evolution. The
PRR gene family is a good example of a duplicating gene family that has evolved
among plants.
Future directions
There remains a great deal of work to achieve a mechanistic understanding of how
the circadian clock keeps time. Questions include how the PRR proteins are
recruited to DNA, how TOC1 is a positive regulator, and how the differential
amplification of these two gene families allows modulation of circadian timekeeping.
