ORIGIN
Dr. Janet G. Travell is the pioneer of
this field. She discovered trigger
points in the 1950s. She came up
with trigger points being the source
of isolated pain in her patients, so
she developed a therapy to identify
and treat this points.
WHAT’S A TRIGGER
POINT?
A trigger point is a sore spot in a
muscle, specially when you push on
it. Basically, what most people call a
knot. When a trigger point is very
sensitive can cause pain withouh
being pushed.
METHODOLOGY
Trigger point therapy works by applying
pressure to the knots in the muscle. By
doing that, the tension from the muscle
is released and the shortened muscle
cells return to their length. Then, this can
provide relief from pain and tension to
the muscle.
