Steps to file a charge with the U.S.

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
At the federal level in the United States, you can report to the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission, or EEOC, by filing a Charge of Discrimination on the
EEOC website. This is a signed statement asserting that an employer, union, or labor
organization engaged in employment discrimination. An individual can file a complaint
with the EEOC anytime within a minimum of 180 days, and up to 300 days from the
alleged sexual harassment (depending on applicable law).

To file a charge of discrimination with the EEOC:

• Visit EEOC.gov.

• Navigate to “Employees & Job Applicants.”

• Select “Filing a Charge.”

Keep in mind:

• Charges must be filed within a minimum of 180 days, and up to 300 days
of the incident (depending on applicable law). If you are employed by the
government, you are required to meet with an Equal Opportunity Officer
within 45 days of the incident.

• You do not need to have an attorney to file a charge.

• A charge must generally be filed with the EEOC before you can file in
federal court.
