Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his

wife and her lover and is sentenced to a tough prison. However, only Andy knows he didn't commit the
crimes. While there, he forms a friendship with Red (Morgan Freeman), experiences brutality of prison
life, adapts, helps the warden, etc., all in 19 years.

I heard so much about this movie that initially, I dumped it in the collection of overrated pretentious
movies.

One day when I felt bored, I gave this movie a try. At first it seemed the same but as the story went on
and on, I was literally straightening my back on the chair, it was giving me joy, chills, sadness all at the
same time. And what a beautiful ending, has to be one of the most optimistic films ever made (not
forcefully). The acting by Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman(with his narrative genius) as well as supporting
casts all contributed to the realism, the bgm, the cinematography by none other than the great Roger
Deakins will just sooth(at times give your spine a chill) your mind.

A must watch for anybody.
