COUNTED. THINK FIRST BEFORE YOU WRITE YOUR FINAL ANSWER.

I. Problem Solving. Show your solution. (5 points each). Use the space below and at the back of your test
paper.

1. To vaporize 50.0 g carbon tetrachloride, CCl4 requires 9.69 kj at its normal at its normal boiling point
76.7ºC and 1 bar pressure. Calculate the molar enthalpy of vaporization of CCl4.

2. Calculate the thermal energy required to melt 0.500 mol NaI at its normal melting point.

3. The Henry’s Law constant for oxygen in water at 25º C is in equilibrium with air at normal atmospheric
pressure. Calculate the concentration of oxygen in this stream. Express the result in milligrams per liter
(mg/L). The mole percent of oxygen in air is 21%.

4. Percentage Concentration by Mass

A solution is prepared by dissolving 2.50 kg of solute in enough solvent to make 55.0 kg of solution. What
is the percentage concentration of the solution?

5. How many milliliters of commercial hydrochloric acid, which is 11.6 molar, should you use to prepare
5.50 L of 0.500 molar hydrochloric acid?

6. Calculate the freezing point of a solution 2.12 g of naphthalene,C10H8, in 32.0 g of benzene,/C6H6.Pure

benzene freezes at 5.50 degree Celsius, and its Kf = 5.10○C/m.
